BLACKBROOK 3 RINGLEY 4
When no official referee turned up veteran referee Keith Sarsfield ceased coaching the u8s & did a great job controlling this top of the table match. The result of this high quality encountercould have gone either way, Ringley's solid back line perhaps being the key.
Ringley opened the scoring on 10m after an appalling indecisive defensive mix-up by Blackbrook. However, Blackbrook deservedly equalised on 20m when Gareth Thomas ran onto an astute Liam Philpott pass, took the lead on 35m when Liam Philpott scored from an audacious John McGowan chip over his marker. On 37m Ringley almost equqlised when Tommy Hughes cleared off the line. The end to end nature of the encounter was shown almost immediatly when Liam Philpott almost scored from a direct free kick following a foul on Gareth Thomas.
Early in the second half a great Ringley run ended with the ball screaming over the bar. The interplay between Adam Gilchrist  Liam Philpott continued to cause Ringley problems  on 58m Gareth Thomas just failed to score from a spectacular header from a Gilchrist pass. On 53m Ringley equalised from a deflection. Blackbrook then almost  took the lead again after a perceptive double one-two between Adam Gilchrist ; Danny Walsh resulted in a great save by Ringley's 'keeper. On the hour Blackbrook scrambled the ball away for a corner during a period of Ringley pressure only for Ringley to score again in the 63rd minute. Blackbrook equalised again on 71m when a Liam Philpott pass was dispatched beautifully by Adam Gilchrist. This was the best goal of the game. Unfortuneately for Blackbrook they were denied the point they deserved in the 75th minute with another own goal.
For Blackbrook reserve 'keeper James Fairhurst coped well and big Daryl McCartney had an impressive debut.
