Language Standards
LDSMOMS Dear Sisters,

Excerpted from "For The Strength of Youth":

"How you speak says much about who you are. Clean and intelligent language is evidence of a bright and wholesome mind. Use language that uplifts, encourages and compliments others... When you use good language, you invite the Spirit to be with you... Profane, vulgar, or crude language... [is] offensive to the Lord and to others. Foul language harms your spirit and degrades you."

While our list, LDSMOMS, is not an official representative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we *are* members of the Church. As such, we are expected to adhere to certain standards. As you've noted above, certain language is considered unacceptable. Even using symbols, such as @#* in place of the letters, draws a mental picture of the word in question. We can and should do better than this.

Sheri L Dew asks, "Am I the woman I think I am, the woman I want to be? More importantly, am I the woman the Savior needs me to be?" (Ensign, Nov. 1997)

President Kimball stated that, "Much of the major growth that is coming to the Church in the last days will happen to the degree that the women of the Church reflect righteousness and articulateness in their lives and to the degree that [they] are seen as distinct and differentin happy waysfrom the women of the world." (Ensign, Nov. 1979)

Please ask yourself two things before you click "send": Am I being the woman the Lord needs me to be? Am I reflecting Him by the choices I make with the words I use?

With love and light,

Kathi
