~ True Service: The Little Mormon Red Hen ~
Contributed By Kathi (written by Unknown Author)
Once upon a time, there was a little Mormon Red Hen. She was very busy scratching out a living for herself and her chicks, as well as trying her best to live the commandments of the Church and be active in all the organizations. The dearest wish of her heart was to be able to return to Heavenly Father, and be worthy to live with Him forever.
One day her opportunity came to serve.
The Relief Society President asked her to bake some bread.
The Primary President needed a teacher.
The Choir Director needed singers.
The Bishop needed some people to go to the temple.
The High Priest Group Leader said, "We desperately need Home Teachers and
Visiting Teachers to reach all the brothers and sisters in the Ward. Who
will help me do it?"
"The poor are in need", said the Bishopric. "Who will pay tithes and
offerings?"
The Prophet asked his people to perfect themselves and be obedient.
One fine day, the Lord came in all His glory. The Pig, the Goose, and the Cat ran to meet Him. "We have been expecting you!" they cried. The Little Red Hen, knowing of all her failings, held back, feeling she was not worthy to be in His presence. A tear ran down her beak as Jesus went past the Pig, the Goose, and the Cat and put His arms around the Little Hen, and said, "Well done, good and faithful little servant. You have served me well. Come with me now. All I have is yours."
"What about me?" asked the Pig.
Home
"Who will help me bake the bread?" she asked.
"Not I", said the Pig. "I've never learned to bake bread".
"Not I", said the Goose. "I just don't have the time."
"Not I", said the Cat. "I can't be bother with those little jobs. I want
to be the Relief Society President".
"I'll do it", said the Little Red Hen.
AND SHE DID.
"Who will help me teach the children?" she asked.
"Not I", said the Pig. "I've raised my children and now I deserve to rest".
"Not I", said the Goose. "I just don't have the time".
"Not I", said the Cat. "I don't get along with children. What I want is
to be the Primary President".
"I'll do it", said the Little Red Hen.
AND SHE DID.
"Who will help us praise the Lord in song?" she asked.
"Not I", said the Pig. I don't sing well. Let someone else do it."
"Not I", said the Goose. "I just don't have time."
"Not I", said the Cat. "They don't sing the songs I like best. What I
want is to be the Choir Director."
"I'll do it", said the Little Red Hen.
AND SHE DID.
"Who will do the work for the dead?" he asked.
"Not I", said the Pig. "The temple is so boring and besides, Ward Temple
night is on the night I like to watch T.V.".
"Not I", said the Goose. "I just don't have the time."
"Not I", said the Cat. "I don't think it is very important anyway."
"I'll do it", said the Little Red Hen.
AND SHE DID.
"Not I", said the Pig. "I just don't have the time."
"Not I", said the Goose. "I just don't have time."
"Not I", said the Cat. "I just don't have time."
"I will visit my brothers and sisters", said the Little Red Hen.
AND SHE DID.
"Not I", said the Pig. "I think the poor are just lazy and need to find a
job and take care of themselves."
"Not I", said the Goose. "I just don't have time."
"Not I", said the Cat. "I could never make ends meet if I had to pay
tithing. I need everything I make for myself."
"I will do it", said the Little Red Hen.
AND SHE DID.
"Not I", said the Pig. "If I didn't smoke and drink at parties, my
friends would make fun of me. And what is this thing about morality?
Don't you know this is the new millenium?"
"Not I", said the Goose. "I just don't have time."
"Not I", said the Cat. "He may be a prophet in Utah, but he doesn't seem
to know what is happening here in Foster City."
"I will try", said the Little Red Hen.
AND SHE DID.
"What time is it?" asked the Goose.
"Well, He always like her best", said the Cat. "I really never had a
chance!"
