~Peace~

By Melisa

As I contemplated what to write on this subject, I had to actually sit and think of time when I had "pure peace" and did I EVER have such a thing. The first thing that came to mind was the first time I went to the temple to take out my Endowments and be Sealed to my family for Time and Eternity. As I sat in the Celestial Room of the Seattle Temple, I felt udder peace. I was surrounded by friends, the room was so warm and welcoming. There were soft voices talking around me. And as I closed my eyes to take this moment in, I knew there was something more to what I was feeling. Our attendent told us we could stay in the Celestial Room as long as we wanted. But we couldn't wait to get to the Sealing Room.

As we walked into the Sealing Room, we were introduced to Bro. Sears, our Sealer. His wife was our attendent for the day. She beamed with pride as she introduced him. I noticed there were more of our friends who had not gone through the endowment session, yet still drove the 45 minutes it took to get to the temple, to witness my family being Sealed. What struck me even more was someone who I didn't know, yet still wanted so much to be there to witness what was about to happen. Our own Sis. Lara Niedermeyer had come all the way to witness our Sealing and one of another friend. WOW, was I truly blessed or what?

As the ceremony began, I was holding back the tears, as well as my husband, David. And then, they brought the angels in. Our three beautiful daughters, dressed in white. Each had thier hair freshly done with a bow they had made while in the youth room. Each had a little bow on thier right wrist to remind them what hand they had to use. I was now fighting back the tears, as the spirit was so strongly present and I was now fully at peace.

Being in the Temple brings such peace to the people that enter through the doors. Other things that show us Christ brings peace, as wrote by Elder Marvin J. Ashton, Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (Ensign, 1985 "Peace--A Triumph of Principles") "Peace is not a purchase away. Peace is not when the final installment is paid. Peace is not when marriage comes nor when all the children are enrolled in school. Peace is not when the last child returns from the mission field. Peace is not when an inheritance is received. peace is not when the scars of death start to heal."

"True peace must not be dependent upon the conditions or happenings. Peace must stem from an inward contentment built upon trust, faith, and goodwill toward God, fellowmen, and self. It must be constantly nurtured by the individual who is soundly anchored to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Only Then can a person realize that the trials and tribulations of daily life are less important than God's total goodness".

In the busy lives that we lead today, taking care of jobs, husbands, houses, and kids do we think at most times we have "peace"? On a daily basis do we, as daugthers of our Father in Heaven, strive to have the peace in our lives that is Jesus Christ?

Sisters, I pray that we might learn to grasp the true peace that Christ offers to us everyday. By following his example, and doing those things which he has asked us to do, attend our meetings, prayer, scriptures and most of all, family duties, we too can find the peace of goodness known as Jesus Christ.

I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
