USS Oberon Poetry

Ode to Oberon

Just sit right down, and I'll tell you a tale,
A tale both strange and true:
Of a fateful mission of a shuttlecraft
And her bold and valiant crew.

This shuttle launched from the Simonov,
The "Oberon" was her name:
Proud bearer of a King's renown,
From literary fame.

It happened on her maiden flight
A marooned crew she would save:
Her pilot was steadfast and sure,
Her commander cool and brave.

Though they both had nerves of Duranium
Their hearts sunk through the floor;
The commander not one bit amused
That the pilot never flew before!

They ran aground on Titus IV -
The cause not very clear;
The commander to the pilot said:
"How the Hell did we get here!"

But their efforts saved five Ensigns, who
Were stranded there alone.
Then the brave, misguided shuttle
Engaged to warp back home.

They tried to take a short-cut back
But the pilot got turned around;
And ricocheted 'round
A sun the wrong way -
No more will they be found!

What became of shuttle Oberon
Will never be fully known -
As the shuttle was tossed
Into another time-zone.

We wonder what became of that
Intrepid shuttle crew?
When duty called, they did not shirk:
To Starfleet they were True!

* This parody to the "Gilligan's Island" theme was composed while the USS Oberon was yet a fledgling chapter, or "shuttle" under the sponsorship of the USS Simonov of Fairfield, CA, then the Flagship of Starfleet, International. Since the Simonov is a "Movie" phase vessel, 80-years prior to the Galaxy class Oberon, naturally the time-discrepancy had to be explained. Little did we know at the time that a certain Intrepid Class vessel would suffer a similar fate on national TV.
