Loren P. Lee

CHARLESTON, IL - Loren P. Lee, age 81, of Charleston, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2000 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Funeral services celebrating Loren's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 12 at Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston with Reverend Gene Sims officiating. Interment, with military rites performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey Post 1592 of Charleston, will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel.

Loren was born December 29, 1918 in Hutton Township in Coles County, Illinois, the son of Jennings Bryan and Cecil Cloe (Fitzpatrick) Lee. He married Edna Mae Drake in Charleston at her parents home on June 28, 1947.

Survivors include his wife Edna of Charleston; one son, Lester Dale Lee and his wife Shelia of Sullivan, Illinois; two daughters, Karen S. Myerscough and her husband Dave of Charleston and Margaret A. Brown and her husband Johnny of Hindsboro, Illinois; five grandchildren, Greg Turnbow of Sullivan, Illinois, Johnny Brown of Hindsboro, Illinois, Jeremy Brown of Effingham, Illinois and David and Paul Myerscough of Charleston; three brothers, Leland Lester Lee and his wife Alpha, Ralph Lee and his wife Aileen and Darrell Lee and his wife Jewel, all of Charleston, and; two sisters, Maxine Serven of St. Augustine, Illinois and Merna Combs of Oakland, Illinois. He was preceded by his parents and a grandson, Steven Myerscough.

Loren will be remembered by many in the community as a carpenter and later as a member of the production department for Reasor Corporation, a position he held at retirement. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the Ferry Squadron as a radio operator. An avid reader, he had a special interest in history and enjoyed sharing his historical knowledge with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and bowling.

CHARLESTON -- The funeral service for Loren Lee was held Saturday morning at Adams Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gene Sims officiating. Burial, with military rites was performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul McVey Post 1592 of Charleston, was at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon.
V.F.W. members participating included Richard Irby, Detail Commander; Henry Bough, Squad Commander; Robert Holmes, Chaplain; George Talbott and Ralph Rhoden, Flag Folders; Reggie Replogle, Bugler; Harley Closson and Farrell Hills, Color Bearers; Harold Coartney and Bob Woodyard, Color Guards; Bud Alexander, Dave Bradley, Darrell Easton, Earl Holmes, Willis McKinney, Jim Nickell and Jerry Shaw, Riflemen.
Music of "In the Garden", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art" were played.
Pallbearers were Jeremy and Johnny Brown, David and Paul Myerscough and Greg Turnbow, all grandchildren of Mr. Lee.
Mr. Lee, of Charleston, died Feb. 10, 2000 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
