What I benefited the most from the interview assignment was the importance of balancing learning experiences in the classroom as well as at home.   During my interview with Mary, I was continually reminded of the progress she's made as a proficient reader.  Her success has a lot to do with the literacy rich environment provided by her teacher and the support she receives at home.  For instance, she is encouraged in school to read a variety of books as well as write in her journal.  At home, she enjoys reading and writing poetry.  These activities whether in school or at home are an extension of one another while broadening her learning experiences.
As Mary discussed her computer experiences during her interview, I couldn't help but think of my course objective to achieve technology resources that can enhance the quality and scope of learning experiences.  Mary is only a second grader and already has substantial knowledge of the computer.  It stressed upon me the importance of having teachers that are technology knowledgeable in order to provide their students with all the resources necessary for successful learning.  I know the technology I learned in this course will be a valuable asset in the classroom.
The interview influenced the way I hope to teach someday.  Only if the teacher provides as many opportunities as possible such as a literacy rich environment  will a student achieve in her full capabilities.  The teacher needs to instruct a variety of skills and strategies that will assist all students to read proficiently.  A variety of resources need to be accessible to students such as a wide selection of books and computer programs.  Most important, a teacher needs to include the support from the student's home environment such as the support that Mary received.
