LDAA Senior Basketball Rules Addenda- 2009

 

The following “Modified FIBA” rule revisions have been adopted by the senior basketball leagues of the LDAA:

 

The Court

 

-          The wide key is to be used wherever available.

 

Game Duration

 

-          Four 8 minute stop-time quarters.

-          1 Minute breaks between quarters.

-          Overtime periods shall be 5 minutes in duration.

-          5 minute break at halftime.

-          Teams change ends only at halftime.

 

Jump Ball

 

-          There will only be a jump ball to start the game.

-          Alternating possession for the rest of the game.

 

Ball Movement

 

-          Officials’ handle in both courts.

-          A player has eight seconds to advance the ball to the front court.

-          NOTE- there will be no shot clocks in LDAA league play, though a “ten-second-warning” may be given at the discretion of an official.

 

Over and Back

 

-          There are no back court options once the ball is advanced to the front court.

-          Stepping on the center line after advancing the ball to the front court constitutes over-and-back.

-          A player straddling the center line must advance forward to the front court.

 

Foul Shots

 

-          Five seconds to shoot the ball.

-          On a successful free throw only a violation by the shooter is penalized.

-           A violation by either team (excluding the shooter) is called ONLY if free throw is unsuccessful.

-          Substitutions can be made only before the first shot or after the last successful shot.

 

 

 

 

 

Bonus

 

-          Occurs on the fifth team foul per quarter.

-          Two shots are taken.

 

Time Outs

 

-          Two in the first half, two in the second half, one per overtime period.

-          A timeout shall be 1:00 in duration.

-          There is no carry-over of timeouts.

-          May only be called by coaches.

-          May only be called through scorer’s table.

 

 

Defense

 

-           Teams must always play person-to-person defense in the first half.  Teams may play any defense they wish in the second half.

-          See constitution under “Basketball” for specific rules regarding person to person defense.

 

 

Apparel

 

-          T-shirts worn under uniforms are allowed provided they are the same color as the uniform.
