Hey, all you LCTG grads = "oldie moldies"....hard to believe, but we're still here, and we're still doing theatre!
Go back up to the "directors link," right beside "currently playing" because we've got more "new" news for ya!
NO MORE LC, BUT A WHOLE LOTTA "NEW" LCTG!!!! We are out on our own at last!
Meanwhile, hey, LCTG Alumni! Please email ALowe at [email protected] , say hello, and catch us up on where you live and what you're doing! Unfortunately, we only had a few "takers" on a tentative 3rd LCTG Summer REUNION...alas, but we might try again next year! Hey, hey, Janet Montgomery emailed us!!! So did Laurel Ruff who is managing a professional theatre house in Texas! Maybe they still have our email data base??? We'd love to schedule another reunion. Our second summer one was July 20, 21, 22, 2001, when the Lake Central Theatre Guild celebrated 35 years with Paul*** and Angie Lowe***. That was organized by Janet Montgomery, Nancy Schultz, and a host of others! Just a few of the now slightly older, familiar faces who made it to town from points NSE&W included Tim Peyton***, Michael Berglund***, Rob & Sammy Mikulski***, Riley Knight***, Steve & Debbie (McCormick) Tennant***, Jim Oyster***, Jim Becklenberg***, Bruce Jung***, our usual organizational gang...and many, many more.
We just had a Christmas get-together last Dec 27 at Great Oaks, and boy, was that a fast, fun night!
Oh, and we have done a few shows at the Star Plaza?!!!! Good old Harold Hill (Charlie Blum) asked us to revive '04's summer show of The Music Man, so we did 2 weekends in '05! Added lots of new people, replaced some, had a great time!
Remember: email ALowe at [email protected] with Janet's email address or Nancy's, and MAYBE old ALowe could possibly plan the next reunion! Boss just turned 63! Angie just hit 61 in Nov.!
Alumni, be sure to check the alumni page and add or change your address and email info! Just heard from David Arispe who's now out in California. So are Paul Storiale and Susan Skup (she's a nut!) Paul is directing in his own theatre space! Just search NOHO Theatre, and you'll find him!
Fun page on the LCTG Website! Over the 40-going on 41 years of the LCTG there have been some crazy happenings, and interesting people have left their mark. Here's a page for all that LCTG Trivia you may or may not know! Please email us at [email protected] with any tidbits you'd like to add!!!Click for LCTG Trivia
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE LCTG!
WE WON BEST SHOW 2006 FOR THE FOREIGNER, AND BOSS WON BEST DIRECTOR!!! And our "Ellard", portrayed by J.J. Boylan, won Featured Actor award! Hey, hey!
Add these to our other nominations....our "Gramps" from On Borrowed Time was nominated as Best Actor. In '04, LCTG's own Kristyn Rehling Estes was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Marian the Librarian in The Music Man! Our zany Kim Bernstein (Noises Off, '87) also received a nomination as Best Actress in a Play for her "roles" plural in LCTG's Chase Me Up Farndale Avenue, S'il vous plait! Of course, our biggest win ever was Angie as Director and the show itself TWELVE ANGRY MEN! In 2002-2003 LCTG received the following nominations from the NIETF.
Best Musical-Jesus Christ Superstar Best Director of a Musical Angie Lowe Best Lighting for a Musical-Keith Palazolo*** Keith actually WON! Heck, the whole Foundation itself was founded by one of LCTG's own, Kevin Bellamy '83 who had graduated with "his nibs" Riley Knight!
Click here for a list of Awards and Nominations given to the LCTG, but remember! We did theatre long before there were awards!!!!
We would like to welcome ALowe herself as the newest webmaster of the LCTG site. She joins a long list of people that include Julie Leslie (now at NASA!), Pete Seat (now working in The White House! PETE recently SAW BRADLEY WHITFORD FILMING THE WEST WING AND HAD HIS PICTURE TAKEN WITH HIM! BE STILL, MY HEART!), but most recently, Pete met Colin Mochrie from Whose Line is it Anyway?, Nick Poteres and Brandon Denton (now both in college). So if you have any newsworthy items to add, please send them to [email protected] send any complaints to Pete! Pete is now working with the press staff at the White House, just returned from the South American trip with Dubya. Hey, we might not be Reps ourselves, but it's still a "brush with destiny", right? Keep in mind, though, that ALowe is still a novice at this computer stuff!!! Be patient with her....
Cool LCTG News! Check out one of our favorite LCTG grads DAVID BOLLER's website www.davidboller.com and see what he's been doing! Rob Mikulski*** closed Aida 2 yrs ago last Labor Day weekend after more than 4 years as conductor! Rob and Sam have actually started up their own fine arts school, together with some incredibly talented people from Aida! It's called the Fine Arts Connection! Rob gave up the idea of taking Les Miserables on tour as its music conductor, deciding instead to stay home w/Sammy and the family to teach! Pete Seat had seen "Aida" on a trip to NY with ALowe, Boss, Keith, Keith, and Brenda, and it was awesome. It was an amazing thrill to see Rob conduct! Again, just Google Robert Mikulski and see what he & Sam have been up to just lately!

BOSS UPDATE!!! Boss update? He's doing great! (History: For those of you wondering, as I'm sure you all are...it has been almost 4 years since Boss had his heart bypass surgery. For those of you who might not know...he had a quadruple bypass operation on July 28, 2003. Sadly, he missed the final three performances of "Jesus Christ Superstar" due to this...but thank God it was caught in time and he is still doing fine! He's up and out every morning to work at Great Oaks on a set!) At the risk of repeating health info, Michael T is doing fine after his quad bypass too...he's been home almost a week! Sad to report that TERRY FELUS is back at the Bremen Health Care Center in Bremen, In. It's not looking good for Terry, we're very sad to report. Boss and ALowe took his daughter Stephanie back to Indiana State for her spring semester. Allsion is doing very well in Chicago (just got promoted to editor!!!, and Paul is out on the west coast, happy and working.

Just a tidbit about our GUYS AND DOLLS...in late Aug '05: Got a wonderful surprise one night when the wonderful Lorene Townsend James brought along a special guest (or 2) from the "good old LCTG days"! It was Cheryl James and her daughter Katie Robinson! What a great reunion that was, especially since Riley Knight was playing one of the leads. Great reunion for Cheryl and her brother-in-law Riley too!!! Now, so sadly, we had to suffer the loss of Lorene who passed away very suddenly the following April 25, '06. The outpouring of those who came to pay their respects was overwhelming and very comforting to Tom and their 6 children. We are so very sad to have lost our dear Lorene who had danced in so many of our shows in the 70's. We are so blessed to have known Lorene, and we know that she was looking forward to working with us again, just two blocks from her home. She'll forever be in our hearts...
Can you believe it? We started theatre in '66...whew, and now we're in our 43rd year! Starting year # 5 at Great Oaks!!! CALL us for info 365.3197 or call Great Oaks at 374.8000.
Remember our first ARSENIC AND OLD LACE??? The classic screwball comedy about the 2 aunts who poison lonely old men!!!! (30 years ago, Mary Mysliewiec and Sheli Chermak played the aunts! Tony "Grunch", Beth Bachnak (now Nigh), Bob Dz, Jim O, Mark Perrings, Michael Berglund (in 2 roles), Darryl Carstensen, Jeff Ferguson, Dave Boller, and Kendal Smith! What a show! FYI, Kendal is now teaching Chemistry and German at LC! Who'd have thought it?
We did a great little comedy about murder and marital misunderstandings! MURDER AT THE HOWARD JOHNSON'S.....we opened at Great Oaks in Oct, then took the show to White Pines Dinner Theatre in Ill, then to Serbian Social Center in Lansing! And we're retired???
This adorable little comedy featured local (and LCTG) favorites Linda Slankard , Don Taylor, and Gary Jones who teamed up in 2's always plotting to kill the 3rd party. Took place at a Howard Johnson's hotel/motel room on 3 consecutive holidays...Christmas Eve, 4th of July, and New Year's Eve....it's a year in the life of 3 crazy people! (We did this show several years back with Bruce Jung, Holly Orr, and Cemal Ozdemir...they were fantastic. The "older crowd" had as much fun as they did and got paid handsomely too!)
FATHER ILDIE NEWS! For those of you who may have wondered about Father Ildephonse (our patron Saint!), he's still doing his wonderful works, although he doesn't get to see all our shows now as he commutes from Frankfort, Illinois. Contact him if you'd like at 1-815-469-4895, ext. 398. We know he'd love to hear from you!
MEANWHILE....(remember that scene, all you '80 Superman kids???)...a brief (as brief as ALowe can be, considering we've done so many shows here already!) history of our theatre ventures at Great Oaks!
Our first "new" LCTG show at the Oaks was ON BORROWED TIME (a wonderful little play about Gramps and his devoted grandson Pud who "tricked" Mr. Brink (Death) up into their apple tree, and what a great apple tree we built! Nobody could die 'til Gramps let Mr. Brink come down. Even though it was sad, the ending was most inspiring as Gramps and Pud both rejoined their lost loved ones in Heaven for in the end, we all know Death is inevitable. Audiences laughed and cried! Our Gramps was even nominated for a Best Actor award!
The 2nd show was DOUBLE-BOOKED IN CABIN #4, a funny little piece wherein two couples, "double-booked" in the same cabin for a holiday weekend, decided to tough it out, shared the cabin and learned so much from each other about marriage and commitment, much to the delight of audiences who identified
with both couples!
Next THE ODD COUPLE, featured Doc Kuhn & Ron Estep, names familiar to all LCTG oldie moldies, and a cast of crazy adults!
ALowe was busy at the same time directing the musical PIPPIN at Andrean High School (WHERE LORENE TOWNSEND JAMES was teaching until her very sad and untimely passing Tuesday, April 25, 2006. We were all so devastated at losing Lorene. She's survived by her wonderful husband Tom James and 6 beautiful children.
STILL MORE! Angie directed NUNSENSE at IUN in late JUNE. We cast our own Linda Slankard as the Rev. Mother! She was be a hoot! Plus a fabulous lady named Kim Bernstein (our Dotty in Noises Off in '87) as Sr. Hubert...boy, did she save our butts! Hadn't originally cast her, but the IUN student Angie was urged to cast bailed during the 1st week of rehearsals, and Kim saved the day! Also our Marian the Librarian made her debut as a nun, albeit a tomboy nun Sr. Robert Anne. Then a great gal named Kyrie Anderson (who had just played Belle in Beauty and the Beast) played Sr. Leo, with our own Christine Widuger (Zaneeta Shinn) as Sr. Mary Amnesia! What a fun group of gals!
We also "resurrected" GODSPELL at Great Oaks in early JUNE.
JULY brought the "new" LCTG's revival of THE MUSIC MAN again at the STAR PLAZA THEATRE! What do they always say about being busier than ever after retirement???
It is so true! Keep checking this website!

The following are some of Pete Seat's memories of the "good old days" at the "old" LCTG, when students and thespians were rewarded for their efforts and dedication to our theatre guild. Thespians received special awards throughout their theatrical careers.
Everyone was included... the actors... the techies... the pit... mothers... fathers... student directors...
everyone. On closing night, after the final curtain call, tradition called for the actors to bring out the crew and the pit.
Emotions ran high as everyone cried out, "PIT! PIT! PIT! PIT!" After the
directors, Mr. and Mrs. Lowe would come out, the awards would begin. Students received awards depending on the amount of work they had done and the plays they were involved in. The first award for an LC thespian to receive was to become a member of the guild. After performing or helping with more shows, the recipient would then receive an LCTG jacket. Tradition called for the
jacket to be worn for 24 hours straight after getting it. We think that tradition was started by Sammy Hughes (now Mikulski) who was just so happy to get her jacket that she slept in it that night and didn't take it off 'til the next day.
The final award to a thespian used to be (we're talking way, way back "many centuries ago", not long after the Bible began.....No, wait, those are lyrics from Joseph! Truly, we used to award a green blazer (no, Paul Velligan, not a vehicle, but a sports-type coat!) Rosie Ihnat FINALLY convinced us to start awarding a theatre ring, and in '89 we awarded the first Thespian ring to Jim Becklenberg! Since then, we couldn't begin to tell you how many rings we've given! Our rings, by the way, were designed by '75 grad Larry Nigh and are manufactured by Brad Belush of Belush Manufacturing in Crown Point,In.
We still give rings and jackets. We're thinking about changing to black jackets though...what do you think? Feedback, anyone?
In each program, stars (*) are placed behind people's names to show which awards they have received. "*"
denotes thespian member, "**" denotes a jacket winner, and "***" denotes a theatre ring winner. These
awards are very important to us, and we hope you've enjoyed learning some LCTG
culture! (Note: It is so sad to hear that the Lowes' high school replacements have discontinued the awards on closing night. The kids deserve them for all their hard work, loyalty, talent, cooperation, reliability, and so on! We hope they will reconsider and re-instate some version of awards for those who deserve them!
Some of the most recent LCTG award winners include....Members Tommy and Shari Knoerzer, Alex Colakovic, T.J. Nee....Jackets Tommy and Shari Knoerzer, Morgan Jacobs, and more...Rings Matt Bottger, Amanda Reyome, Linda Slankard, Jenna Knoll, just to name a few. Award Winners for 2003 Summer Show JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (including for the first time...their appropriate stars!):
New Members* (in no particular order...)
Skye Holman*, Phil Chancellor*, Jenna Knoll* (more)
New Jacket Winners**:
Brian Podsiadlik**, Katie Solina** and Matt Egener**
New Ring Winners***:
Kristyn Estes*** and J.J. Boylan*** It took Kristyn and J.J. since '83 to get their rings. If anyone has been overlooked, please email
me. We'll try to catch up this site soon as to the newest members, jacket winners, ring winners since Superstar! Only 4 years behind...aw,gee!
