   5/24/10 - Sub State @ Des Moines Roosevelt -

We traveled tonight to Des Moines Roosevelt to play in the first round of Sub State.  The weather was hot with a good wind out of the south.  Win you go on, lose you're done.  We talked to the boys about wanting to go on, wanting to win, but win as a team.  We played hard tonight but not hard enough, and not together.  We could not manage to get 11 people on the field at the same time that were playing for the same reason, that had the same motivation.  It takes 11 people to play the game and they must all be together.  I told them that if we would shoot tonight and score, we will have a chance to win this game, but you don't score if you don't shoot.  Well we were out shot the first half 1-11, out  hustled, and lost the 50/50 battle, we went into the half down 0-3.  We have the wind now in the second half, we just need to possess the ball, win the 50/50, make the easy pass, and not give up.  We started to look better toward the end of the first half and we just needed to get a chance to shoot.  Well 18 minutes in they score again and go up 0-4.  Two minutes later Roberto Gaytan takes the ball into the corner and sends in a great crossing ball, it deflects off of their defender and goes into the net.  We got one now and we need to use the momentum.  We stay with them the second half shot for shot as we both had 10 shots the second half, we just couldn't get any more to go in.  The game ends and the seasons ends tonight with a 1-4 loss.  We had a great game tonight by Mark Richwine in the goal.  He had 21 saves for the game and stopped many one-on-one attempts.  Super job tonight by senior Nick Graves at sweeper, he ran down attack after attack as they managed to break through the line time after time.  He also did a good job running the defense and keeping his outside backs in front of him and managing to stop a lot of their attacks by pulling them offsides.  Nick did a solid job the second half of the season running the defense.  Losing Nick and Colin Duffy on defense this year will create a major hole in the back that we will have to fill next year.  Nick was assisted tonight in the back by Colin, Connor Perlberg, Cody Hicks, and Brian Fountain.  Connor didn't start in back, but he played very well when he was in and earned himself some extra playing time.  Miguel Ramos played another solid game tonight along with Zach Shea in the middle.  Final game tonight for the season for everyone but the last time our seniors will play in a Titan uniform.  Seniors Nick Graves, Colin Duffy, Todd Whisinnand, Brian Fountain, and Roberto Gaytan.  We will finish off the season with the year end banquet and hand out the year end awards.  Keep checking back for the details.

We want to take a moment to Thank  Rene Mahood and the parents for the meal that was sent with us again tonight on the bus.  The meals are greatly appreciated and really help.  It is a long day leaving at 3 and getting back at 11 and the meals help to get us through it.  Thank you all for what you have done.
