2010 Titans

   5/21/10 - Denison -

On the road tonight to play our last game of the regular season at Denison.  It is also a conference game that if we win can at least set us 500 in the conference.  The weather was great, and the field was perfect.  Denison has a very nice soccer complex, and it was in great shape.  We beat them last Saturday at the Norwalk tournament in a very tough battle, and we knew tonight would be no different.  They came at us strong, they won the majority of the 50/50 balls and attacked the ball much harder than we did at first as we seem to look lost in the middle half of the field.  We managed to get to the half at 0-0 after a hard fought battle.  We talked about communication, possession, and taking some shots.  The second half was another battle.  We escaped several attacks by them as Mark Richwine played a very solid game in the goal tonight.  Mark had a well run defense in front of him tonight that ran down attack after attack.  Nick Graves stepped up again tonight and ran a solid sweeper position assisted at defense by Colin Duffy, Zach Shea, and Cody Hicks,  Zach played very well tonight and along with several others gave all they had to give tonight.  Then with 9:26 left in the game they set up a corner kick.  They hit the ball, Mark comes to get the ball, one of the Denison players runs into Mark, he drops the ball and they are there to put it away.  We have several opportunities after that to tie up the game and maybe even go ahead but we go high or wide.  We fought hard all the way to the end and never laid down.  It was a tough game, but we just could not score, again, another loss due to a 0 score.  We will travel to Des Moines Roosevelt on Monday for first round Sub state.  The game is at 6:30, please join us if you can.

JV had a chance tonight to finish the season on the right side of the record with a win and be above 500.  A team that started out the season so strong and looked great had an opportunity to finish strong as well.  They finished strong, just on the wrong side of strong.  JV finished their season tonight with a 0-7 loss to Denison.  It was hard to play in this game and it was hard to watch.  We did not have the boys ready to play tonight and it showed.  They did not play together, did not talk, and looked lost the whole time.  On the bright side, even though they were down 0-7 they never gave up, never stopped, and played to the last buzzer.  We need to get the younger players onto a team this summer and try to keep them together in order to get used to each and develop together.
