Quotes

"First they came for the Communists but I was not a Communist - so I said nothing.

Then they came for the Social Democrats, but I was not a Social Democrat - so I did nothing.

Then they came for the trade unionists, but I was not a trade unionist.

And then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew - so I did little.

Then when they came for me, there was no one left who could stand up for me."

Pastor Martin Niemller
(Lutheran pastor and Holocaust Survivor)

These words still hold true today. People don't remember their history. They think it can't happen to them.

Today in the United States we could write this like this:

"First they came for the gays and lesbians, but I was not gay or lesbian...so I said nothing.

Then they came for the non-born Americans, but I was American born...I did nothing.

Then they came for the liberals, but I was not a liberal...so what was that to me.

Then they came for the Jews, Buddists, Muslims and all non-Christians, but I was a Christian...wasn't this a godly thing?

Then they came for the Mormons, 7th Day Adventists, Sabbatarians, and all non-main stream Christian Churches, I did nothing...I was a Baptist.

Then they came for the Catholics and anyone who did not support the established church and its doctrines...there was no one left to stand up for me."

You think this can't happen in the United States of America?

Think again...

The millions of German-Jews and non-Nazi Germans didn't think it could happen to them...the most enlightened country in Europe!

"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?"
~ Ernest Gaines
