Mission
Pure, perfect, peace. What a wonderful phrase written by George Fox
in the seventeenth century! Unfortunately there is a great deal of violence
in the world today. But as violence can be learned, so can a more peaceful
way.
A Peace Resource Center is not a building with lots of books and
papers but a way of teaching the skills necessary to live a peaceful
life. Our hope is to make the peace resources of Las Cruces readily
available to the community, to bring together many different types of
peace resources in one place. If it is easy for people to find peaceful
alternatives, then they are more likely to consider them. A second purpose
is to educate volunteers in ways to help find peaceful solutions to
problems. The most important resource that can be offered to the community
is the example of a life lived in a peaceful way. These individuals,
who look for peaceful alternatives could teach some like-minded volunteers.
These volunteers, in turn, could help others find peaceful solutions,
because peace is a skill and can be learned. Then there would be sufficient
trained peace workers so that peaceful behavior could be a viable alternative;
the whole community could unlearn violence and learn peace.
