| March 4, 2003 One year ago today I had my surgery! I can't believe that one year has already passed. I am loving my implant more and more every day. Although I am still wearing my hearing aid in my left ear, I have found that I can't function nearly as well without my C.I. I still do not understand speech as clearly as I would like, but I understand it better with the implant and hearing aid together rather than with just the hearing aid alone. My head and earlobe is still somewhat numb. I guess it will always be this way. This is not a big problem though. I haven't updated my web page in a long time. After going through 4 to 5 months of dizziness following my surgery, my doctor ordered a CT Scan and discovered that fluid was leaking out of my ear. This was the reason for the dizziness. He operated on me in August 2002 and this corrected the problem. He took some cartilage and tissue from my ear and packed it inside my ear to form "scar tissue." Today I am just enjoying life with all the beautiful sounds I couldn't hear before. I still can't always identify the sounds or noises that I hear though. I am now working full-time and able to communicate so much better. I can hear everybody's cell phone ringing now! I can hear wind chimes, birds, rain, and so much more! I have considered getting an implant in my left ear, but not anytime soon. I can still understand speech better with my hearing aid, and I don't want to give that up or chance losing that ability with the C.I. |
