January 21, 2006 Happy New Year! Wow! I can't believe it has been 4 years since my surgery. A lot has changed in my life since then. I am still very happy with my C.I. And I can hear and understand speech better with it now. In fact, I hear so well, that I followed my dreams and went on to college. Last year, I received my A.S. in Criminal Justice and I am currently attending East Tennessee State University. I will get my B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Sociology and Psychology in one year. My girls have graduated. Brittany is pursing a career in banking and Brianna received a scholarship to play basketball in college. She is a freshman at Virginia Intermont College. James started his own business and I help him with that. You can check it out at www.techoneservices.net. Everything is pretty wonderful right now, with the exception of feeling the "empty nest syndrome." James bought a motorcycle and we take short trips to help us get over the loneliness of the girls being gone. Wearing the helmet is alittle tricky with the processor. I have to use a stronger magnet because it gets knocked off easily. We have intercoms in the helmets and I am able to hear and understand James while we are riding. I can't understand him very well without my C.I. though. So, I guess you could say I have become dependent on the C.I. I will try to add updates to the website, but with my hectic schedule, it is hard to remember or find time to do it. If you have any comments or questions, you can email me directly at [email protected]. Be sure to mention the cochlear implant and my website in the subject line or your email might get deleted before I have a chance to read it. God Bless! Becky |
