Henri's World
Henri is a member of Napoleon's army at Boulogne.  Use the link to see where Boulogne is and some artistic interpretations of the time.  The map is great, but the text on this site may be difficult to read because it has been translated from French (you aren't required to read it).

Henri has a very deep connection to Napoleon Bonaparte, and through his thoughts we learn how the other men feel about him as well.  While reading part one, "The Emperor," you wrote down some passages that indicated these feelings.  Please re-read them now and keep them in mind while learning about Napoleon.

Napoleon changed the world in which he lived and is still considered to be one of the most influential men who ever lived.  Use the active map to see how Europe was affected
(You will have to download a small program.  The year is in the upper-left corner, and you control it with the vcr-like buttons.  The events come up in the lower part of the window.  Please play it several times, from beginning to end, making sure you understand what's happening.  It will take you a little while to learn the program, be patient.)
What did you learn from this map activity?  Write at least one paragraph.  Then write a journal entry (at least two paragraphs) from Henri's point of view, showing how he feels to be involved.
Because of the huge effect that Napoleon has had on the world, he has been the subject of many works of art.  Look at the paintings on the following sites.  Take notes on any themes you notice.

After looking through them, choose one painting that you think would be Henri's favorite.  Write an essay explaining "why" using details from the painting and the text.  If nothing seems "just right" you may draw or paint your own picture and write your essay about that.

Go to the PBS site to watch a short video about the battle at Austerlitz, which was immediately considered Napoleon's greatest victory.  After you watch it, write a paragraph about the battle using the information in the video.
