Mitosis and Meiosis WebQuest

Answer each question on your own paper. Your Chapter 5 test will be tomorrow!

Mitosis

Go here and answer the following questions:

1. List the steps in the eukaryotic cell cycle, starting with G1.

2. Name three species of eukaryotes.

3. Some cells divide often, others do not. When do liver cells divide?

4. What is cancer?

5. Name a prokaryote.

6. What do we call prokaryotic cell division?

Go here and take the quiz. Then record your quiz score on your paper. Write down which questions you missed and the correct answers to them.

Go here and look at the pictures. Look at numbers 2, 10, 19, and 21. Name them and put them in order.

Meiosis

Go here and answer the following questions:

7. What kind of cells are produced through meiosis?

8. What do we call the exchange of segments of homologous chromosomes?

9. What happens in telophase 1?

10. What happens in telophase 2?

Go here and answer the following questions:

11. The chance of two siblings (not twins) being exactly identical would be what?

12. What is another word for fertilization?

13. Name two other words (from our vocab list) for "1n" and "2n".

Almost at the bottom of the page, it says, "Note this comparison between mitosis and meiosis." Click on this and watch the comparison.

Go here and take the quiz (ignore questions 5 and 6). Record your quiz score on your paper. Write down which questions you missed and the correct answers to them.

Once you have finished answering all of these questions, obtain the worksheet from the teacher. It has two large circles on it. This is a Venn diagram. In the mitosis circle, you will write facts about mitosis. In the meiosis circle, write facts about meiosis. In the section where the two circles overlap, write facts that are true of both mitosis and meiosis.

Turn in all pages.
