BIOGRAPHY: Henderson deserted 4 June 1863 at Hamilton's Crossing, Virginia and was admitted to CSA General Hospital, Charlottesville, VA on 17 June with bebilitus(?). From December 31, 1863 to November 1, 1864 he was absent from roll calls but rejoined from desertion and served light duty because of a surgical certificate. Copies of his civil war records are on file. His name appears on a receipt roll for clothing at Confedrate prision "Castle Thunder". This prision was a converted tobacco warehouse located in Petersburg, Virginia. It was used for confinement of Confederate prisioners undergoing punishment, deserters, and citizens accused of disloyalty. It was called "Castle Thunder" by the inhabitants because of the continual bombardment on both sides and the number of shots which fell within the town.
