Definition: A water impoundment made by constructing a dam, embankment, or by excavating a pit or dugout.
Purpose: The primary purpose of all water supply practices is to provide water for livestock to facilitate proper use of vegetation on rangeland or pasture and/or reduce livestock impacts on strams or riparian areas with the stated or implied intent of improving water quality. All alternative grazing management practices msut be exhausted before additional water supply is implmented.
Conditions Where Practice Applies: a. There is a need for initial or additional watering places to permit the desired level of grassland management by improving distribution of grazing over all parts of the range. b. To reduce livestock waste in streams. c. Relocation of a confined animal feeding operation. |
