For a non-musician, it has been most therapeutic. There have been tough times, and miraculous times. No matter which it was, it helped me get through to my retirement, and now I hope to continue to inflate the old Tuba for a few more years. As to the music there have been times when we tend to want to teach the audiences, not entertain them. Big mistake! They don't come out for lessons. They come out to get away from the everyday drag of life. Keep it simple and keep it familiar! End of epistle.

I am a member of the Houma Terrebonne Community band. I play alto clarinet which is a rare person to find. I am from Lake Charles and went to LaGrange HighSchool in 1963 to 1966. Had Perry Dennis as a band directer. New Dr. Norman Smith really well. I was just curious if any of my old band members were on the membership list. I didn't see any. They would be good to recruit. Our membership is about 50 and we play about 14 concerts a year. We meet every Thursday for 2 hours. I have a son who is a ne band director in Dallas so music is in our family. I guess it all started out with good beginner band directors and they had them in Lake Charles when I was in school. Keep the music going. Mary Henry

From 1972-1994 I was Director of Music for the Beaumont I.S.D. I also started the Beaumont Community Band in 1978. Around 1990 we performed at least two combined concerts with the Lake Charles, Orange and Beaumont Community Bands These were held in the Lutcher Theater in Orange. I retired in 1994 and moved to Lake Livingston. A couple of your former members talked me into starting a Community Band here in Livingston. Jeanette & Bill Iles played in your group several years ago. Jeanette (Clarinet) and Bill (Trombone) Our band has been organized about 4 years now and we are having a "Ball". Several retired and current band directors along with a couple of retired professional players from Houston. Keep up the good work.. Come to visit if you are ever in the area...
