Tremor Tales page 5
Every Piece Of Me

Breathing slow and steady, nerves on fire,
I slid 'neath the car to defuse the bomb.
"Relax," I muttered.  "Got to be calm."
I reached out my cutters to the wires
Looped around the starting motor
Aiming for the red, but a jerk of tremor
Switched the cutters to the blue
And just like that it was sliced in two.
Boom!  Smoke and fire billowed all around
As I flew, feeling no pain, off the ground.
So much for defusing a bomb when shaky,
But hey, I'm calm, every piece of me.
Foot Disease

While rummaging through my love's meds,
The nurse stopped at one, little and red.
She eyed it closely with suspicion.
"What's this pill for, your man's infection?"
"Actually no," I said.  "It's for his E T."
"Oh?  And just what is that, please tell me."
She, a nurse, didn't know of this disorder?
"It's a foot disease," I said fecetiously.
"It makes you shake."  My love and I avoided
Laughing, till she left, then we guffawed.
She soon returned doctor in tow.  "Doctor,
His foot disease makes him shake just awful.
Can you help him?"  "Foot disease?" he said.
"No, nurse, neurological disorder."  And
She flushed with anger at being had.
After the doctor left, she got revenge
By icing my poor love's bedpan.
Wildland Firefighter

Muscles rippling, he hoisted the chainsaw
And attacked the 24 inch Juniper tree.
His arms shook wildly as it gnawed
Unlined cuts other firefighters would see.
To end this humiliating tree
Mutilation he stopped, took control
Of his tremor, and aligned each cut
Till the tree toppled to the ground.
With that he, wildland firefighter, was
Again certified to continue to bring
Down trees that feed rolling firestorms.
He often battles these fires in shifts of
Fourteen hours, which worsens his tremor,
Yet his fellow firefighters still besiege
Him with demands for his signature,
Like chicken scratch, on timesheets.
Though his essential tremor hinders
His firefighting expertise, he fights on,
Good as some, better than most.
Fast Food Fiesta

Up to the fast food restaurant mike she drove
And ordered fries, a coke and burger.  "Please Repeat," said a voice through the speaker.
Striving to control her voice tremors, she
Repeated, "Fries, a coke and burger."  "Sorry,
"You did not come through clearly, repeat."
She did, wondering if she'd ever get
Something to eat.  Soon the voice instructed,
"Drive 'round for your order."  There, waiting, Were food servers galore holding bags of fast
Food and singing, "When our mike's on the blink We do what is right."  And as she slowly drove Past, they tossed the bags into her car, then waved
Her on.  "Thank you!" she called out.  At hearing Her voice they gaped in too late knowledge
That the mike had worked fine, it was
Her voice that was on the blink.  And she?
She raced home and had a fast food fiesta.

Twitterpations

Gently my G P did press
The stethescope to my chest.
His eyes widened as he assessed
The beating of my heart; its pace.
A look of wonder crossed his face
And I, nonplused, forgot the tremor
That shakes me from head to foot.
Had he heard a heart murmur?
He pulled away, cleared his throat
And gazed lovingly into my eyes.
"I love you, too, this I can't deny.
Your heart speaks love's twitterpations,
And to think that I thought your shakes
Agitation."  Had he blown his mind?
He was only my doc, though cute and kind.
"Oh doc," I said.  "If those twitterpations
Were because of love and its delight,
Then I'm in love with everything in sight.
I've essential tremors; they cause them."
"Seriously?" he asked.  So I kissed him and
His vision was blurred by my shaking head.
"Uh," he grunted.  "Forget what I said."
Not For Simple E T

Her first appointment in a year and what
Did she see?  Her neurologist searching
The floor on his hands and knees.  "Eh hem,"
She said, as she stepped into his office.
And up he jumped, grasping a pill and red of face.
"Uh, heh," said he.  "How are you today?"
"I'm fine, but can I help you some way?"
"Oh, no, I dropped this tranquilizer
That I meant for you.  To calm your tremors."
Her thoughts flashed back to the day he stated,
"Addictive tranquilizers?  Not for
Simple E T."  She saw then that his fingers
Were dancing like worms on a hot plate.
And there was a hint of shaking by his bald pate.  Her widened eyes exclaimed, You've tremors!
And you're medicating with tranquilizers!
Knowing he was found out he downed the pill,
Then wrote her a tranquilizer prescription.
"You must hate writing that," said she.
"Certainly not for simple E T."
Tremors Endearing

My beloved gazes up at me, love's glow
On her face.  And, at last, I reach out to
Hold her.  But I mustn't!  I quickly drop
My arms.  I just can't let her feel the
Essential tremors within them.  Her eyes
Cloud with confusion.  Blast my pride!
Why can't I tell her of my affliction?
Do I think her shallow, and her affection?
She turns away, tears stream down her cheeks And I consider her kindness so tender
And sweet.  My secret to her I must reveal.  "Dear one," I whisper, my fate to seal.  "I've
A neurological disorder called
Essential tremor.  I feared that if you
Felt the shaking of my arms you would see
Me as less a man."  "But my love," she cries.
"I could never see you that way.  Embrace
Me."  Thrilled, I take her in my arms and ask
That she be mine in marriage.  "Yes!"  she
Answers. "You have my undying pledge.
And hon, I find your tremor endearing."
Shock 'Em Out Of Existence

Good, a clinic.  It's pharmacy will have pills
For my headache.  Just so no doc sees my
Tremor.  Inside, he saw a doc straighten
A broken leg with a plank, and a shaky
Nurse shout "Boo!" to a hiccupping crank.
Shees, he thought.  They'll wanna bop my
Noggin if they learn that I've head pain.
As he turned to leave, the doc blocked his way.
"You've tremors, and I've the cure!"  "Sure you
Do," he muttered.  "Bye."  The doc stopped him
With a grab to his rear and shoved him into
A room where he hammered a fake human spine.
"Like this I'll hammer yours, bring out your tremor
Cadence, then zap it out of existence."
"That's crazy!" he said, picturing him wrapped
In death's cradle, and he hurried out the door.
The doc followed, dragging a coaxial cable.
"But you'll be steady!" he whined.  ""No charge!"
"Go try it on your nurse!" he yelled back.
And he rushed out the clinic exit.
"Oh Hazel!" the doc shouted.  "Didn't you say
You don't want to tremble anymore?"
