Directed by: Yoshiaki Kawajiri and Tai Kit Mak
Based on the novel by: Hideyuki Kikuchi
Script: Yoshiaki Kawajiri
Plot: A young girl, Charlotte, is kidnapped by the renouned vampire Meier Link. Her family, eager to get her back, have hired the Markus Brothers - a gang of 4 vampire hunters - and D, a Dunpeal - half-human half-vampire  - to find and return Charlotte to them. Which of them will be able to bring her back? Will any of them manage to defeat Meier's guards?
The themes of loneliness and belonging are quite strong in this story, and give it more depth than the average action-packed movie.

D.

D  is a renowned Vampire Hunter. But he is a Dunpeal, born of a human mother and a vampire father. He is therefore destined to a life of loneliness. He is rejected by humans - who fear his vampire heritage - and by vampires - whom he slays for a living.

As a Dunpeal, he shows characteristics of both humans and vampires. His looks resemble more those of the vampires (such as Meier) rather than the other human characters that are portrayed. I think that unlike vampires, he is mortal, in the sense that if he is mortally wounded, he will die (although, I'm not 100% sure of this). However, he apparently doesn't age, and has been around hunting vampires for a long, long time. He is also vulnerable to the sun, though not as much as Vampires. This is what they call Heat Syndrome and explains D's rather extravagant hat. He also has to fight the urge to drink human blood that resides within him.

D. is a man of few words. It seems that he has learnt to distance himself from people to avoid the pain of an eventual rejection. He seems especially vulnerable to issues concerning family, especially when it comes to maternal love. He obviously had issues with his mother... and it seems that he wants to limit the number of Dunpeals, possibly to avoid them the suffering he has been through.
Meier Link

Meier  is a renowned Vampire, feared by many, and with what seems to be a ferocious appetite (did he clear out that village on his own?!). There are apparently few Vampires of his status left.

First impressions of Meier are that he can't be trusted. He is after all a Vampire, and has just kidnapped the young Charlotte. But  Meier is actually quite a romantic character. His love for Charlotte pushes him to travel great distances, even by day, exposing himself to the danger of the Vampire Hunter's attacks. He even goes so far as to walk out in the sun to try to get Charlotte back from the Markus brothers. He's also shown to resist the call of Charlotte's blood. Both times showing us the fight he has to put up to beat his instincts. He does all this even though it seems that he is uncertain about Charlotte's true feelings. It is obvious that she too is in love with him. But he seems to believe that she doesn't fully understand the implications. The pain and hesitation he feels when he is faced with the illusion of Charlotte leaving him show this.

He too is burdened with the loneliness that being a vampire entails. Being virtually immortal and living an eternity in darkness, fighting against himself.
