Nelson Media Center - South Carolina Children's Book Award

The South Carolina Children's Book award is an annual event sponsored by the South Carolina Association of School Librarians with the cooperation of the S.C. Department of Education and the College of Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina.

At Nelson we encourage students in grades 3-5 to participate in this most worthy event. Students must read at least 3 of the titles making them eligible to vote for their favorite book in February. Paper ballots will be distributed to each teacher in grades 3-5 making it possible for the voting process to occur.

I, Mrs. Scott, will announce the book award winner chosen by our students on WLBN Live from the Hive news show, on this web site, and in our school newsletter, the Buzzing Bee.

All of our votes will be sent in and added to those cast by the whole state. Our Lonnie B. Nelson "precinct" will be instrumental in electing the state winner. What an honor!

Following the South Carolina Association of School Librarian's Conference in March, I will announce the state winner. Last year we chose the same winner locally that won for the state!
