Book12.gif (1111 bytes)What are the library hours?   The Nelson Elementary Media Center is open from 7:40 in the morning until 3:15 in the afternoon during each school day.  Sometimes Mrs. Scott stays later than 3:15 to work late.  On those days students can come to check out books until 4:00.  After 4:00 there is no book check out.

Book12.gif (1111 bytes)When does my child come to the media center?  Any student may visit the library as long as they have a library pass.  In addition, students in Kindergarten through Second Grades come to the media center once every 6 school days for a lesson and to check out a book. Book check out time occurs once each week for 3rd graders and once every other week for 4th and 5th graders.   This type of schedule (open access) provides times for teachers to request blocks of time to use for research in the media center.

Book12.gif (1111 bytes)How do I know if my child has an overdue book?   Each Wednesday we print out overdue notices.  These notices are given to the teachers who encourage students to take them home as reminders of overdue books.  Please help by asking your child for overdue notices weekly.  Students with overdue books are not allowed to check out more books until the missing ones are found.  If you have a question please call the media center office at 736-8730 ext.3007.

Book12.gif (1111 bytes)Do students pay fines for overdue books?   We do not charge fines for ovedue books, however if a student loses a book, or if the book is ruined in some way, we expect the student to pay for the book.   Payment is based upon the original cost of the book.

Book12.gif (1111 bytes)What are the library rules? Students are expected to:  ..speak softly in the media center    ..sign in if they are in grades 3 or above  ..use a "mark-it" stick to mark the place of a book on the shelf until he/she makes their final choice   ..keep hands to oneself  ..bring books back on time  ..use computer stations with care  ..push in chairs and clean up after themselves  ..walk, not run
