| Despiser revolves around Gordon(Mark Redfield) who gets fired from his job and dumped by his wife then crashes his car and ends up in purgatory. Once there hes attacked by SHADOWMEN and group of tortured souls called RAGMEN. He is eventually saved by a band of freedom fighters. And this begins the adventure of good vs evil. With CG films from the likes of Pixar doing so well. It would be an independent film like Despiser that would create an innovative mixed of CG environment and live action characters. Using CG has its advantages as most of the effects in the film wouldn't have been pulled off in real life locations unless you had millions of dollars to work with. Philip Cook didn't get trapped by his lack of budget rather he found a clever way to work around his lack of funding by turning to CGI. Despiser isn't a perfect film though. At times the animation is quite amazing yet there are other times when the animation looked quite poor. This inconsistency is the single biggest flaw of this movie. Also the first half the movie was quite bland but i have to say the second half made up for it with more action and effects. Id definitely recommend people go out and buy/rent Despiser. Its not your average film and effects are quite spectacular. I look forward to seeing what Philip Cook has in store for us in the future. Rating 7 out of 10 |
