Welcome to Preschool!  I believe that all children can and want to learn.  My goal is for children to be independent, livelong learners.  To accomplish this goal, I will use an active learning approach to teaching, intrinsic motivation startegies, and positive behavior management strategies.
With the active learning approach, a variety of materials are available to meet individual needs.  Children are encouraged to manipulate materials.  Opportunities for children to make choices are provided throughout the day.  Children are given many opportunities to use language.  As a teacher and facilitator of learning, I will give support to the children as they engage in learning opportunities.  This approach enables children to construct their own knowledge.
I want children to be intrinsically motivated and feel successful.  Therefore, I will plan carefully so they will be challenged without unnecessary frustration.  We will have a "I can" and "I will" attitude.  I believe it is important for young children to learn that they can control their own behavior by making good choices.  Three strategies that I will use are redirection, logical consequences, and conflict resolution.
You may be wondering if this approach works.  My answer is "Yes!"  Children have more opportunities to learn to make choices, solve problems, take risks, and work independently.  By offering a variety of activities that draw on their strenghts, children become more engaged in learning and are given a chance to learn in a way that best suits them.
Now I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself.  I am married and have one daughter in college.  This is my 20th year in teaching.  My previous expereince includes preschool, kindergarten, and the Title 1 reading lab.  I have a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education.
