BRIGHT FUTURES SCHOLARSHIP UPDATE
1. Students must apply for a Bright Futures Scholarship by submitting
a completed Florida Financial Aid Application during their final
year of high school. Application may be accessed at www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org
. Students who DO NOT will forfeit all future eligibility for a
Bright Futures Scholarship.
2. After applying, students will receive passwords via U S mail. If
password is lost, it will take about 10 days to receive a new one in
the
mail.
3. The completed Fl. Financial Aid Application gives Dept. of Ed.
permission
to evaluate transcripts for eligibility.
4. Students must indicate "YES" on the Fl. Financial Aid Application
or they haven't officially applied.
5. Application must be completed by date listed on application to
become
eligible.

Apply For College
It is very important that you apply for college not later than the
months of January or February. Your counselors can not do this for you,
although we are always happy to help you with the application process
or
letters of recommendation. As with the SAT or ACT applications, most
colleges
prefer the on-line application process that is available from their
respective
web sites. FCCJ will soon be accepting applications now for the 05-06
school
year.
Please let your counselor know when you are accepted to a college so
that
we may announce your achievement on the intercom.
Financial Aid Applications
There are two financial aid applications. The
FAFSA
is for federal scholarships, loans and grants. The
Florida Financial Aid Application for Students is for
state
scholarships, loans and grants including Bright Futures Scholarships.
Please
note that you will probably get no financial help without completion of
these forms. You may get these hard copy (paper) forms from
guidance
or
you may link directly to the internet. If you are serious about
attending
college in the fall you will need to get these completed.
Seniors wanting seventh semester consideration for Bright Futures
Scholarship must sit for either the SAT or ACT prior to Christmas
vacation.
This does not apply to seniors who have already received qualifying SAT
or ACT scores. Register on-line or get applications in Guidance.
Both the FAFSA (federal)
and
Florida (state) applications need to be completed and submitted (or
electronically
transmitted) ASAP beginning January 2006. Links provided below.
The 2006-2007 Florida Financial
Aid Application will be available on line December 1, 2005.
