My Rabbitry Journal
~March 15th, 2008~
Nine kits in the nestbox! Finally, some babies! Jolie, a first-time Holland mom, and Nannie, one of my great ND brood does, kindled on the same day--Jolie with SEVEN, and Nannie with five. I was SO happy with both of them...five is a very good-size litter for a Netherland, and seven was far more than I expected from Jolie, on her first time. AND there wasn't a single peanut among them! Thank God!
However, a few days after they were born, Nannie suddenly seemed to break her back (I have no idea how), and she died a couple days later. I'm glad she didn't suffer too long, but she is sadly missed in the rabbitry. Then there was the problem of five tiny ND's needing milk! We ended up putting all of them in with Jolie, making a tidy TWELVE for the poor thing to try to support! I think she could've, but three of the ND's fell out onto the wire and froze. Jolie has succeeded in raising nine, altogether, now. They are starting to bounce out of the nest box and nibble on hay. All nine of them are different colors! I will be posting pictures as soon as possible!
~February 2nd, 2008~
February, already! It's amazing.
The rabbitry is once-more active! Sara, Nannie, and Joilie were bred successfully, and I'm expecting three litters late this month!
I bought four Holland Lops from my sister, and I will be posting pictures of them here, soon. Joilie is a Holland Lop black otter, and she is adorable!
