Vintage Guitar Show Journal
To all who attended the Jan 14/15 World Guitar show held in San Raphael, CA....
Thanks to all the attendees and dealers at the show. Way to put a great event together Larry B!
We had the pleasure to be graced by guitar legend, Carlos Santana on the day of setup. (check out the pics at the link below) We also met our friend's Joe Porcaro from GBASE.com, Supro Thunderbolt lover Jason L. stopped by and hung out for a bit with his bandmate and our buddy Jim brought by his Danelectro/Silvertone amp/spkr combo with 6x10" jensens.... I wonder how he did.... Get back to me Jim! It was great meeting some of the other great vintage dealers out there such as Steve's Guitars, Rockabilly Willy's and Great parts dealer Sheehan Enterprises. Ben P. from Mi$er guitars brought around his prototype aluminium "guitar". It was pretty far out and costs very little to produce. He also brought a nice '57 P Bass to the show.... unfortunatly for us... it didn't make it into the building. We also got to meet our local SLC neighbors, Intermountain Guitar & Banjo. They had a nice Hawaiian Kona Weissenborn guitar that I wanted (along with everything else nice that they brought to the show).... but they're going to hold onto it for now.  I could keep going on with all the nice people we met that made this event a great time. We'll be back there in July. Keep checking this section of the website for our next vintage guitar show appearance. We'd love to meet you when we're in your area. Click

Sea-Tac Vintage Guitar Show...
We had a great time in Seattle. We met a lot of people and some really good players came out to the show and graced our booth with their talents. Our new friend Randy Peterson of Randy's Guitars fell in love with our '59 Les Paul Jr and we have been keeping in touch since. We made a lot of aquaintences and gerally had a blast. Thanks to Gordon for continuing to put on a great show. We'll see you next time.
Arlington Vintage Guitar Show...
Everybody was in Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington for this awesome event. The wife and son stayed home for this one, but I got to bring out my good friend Paul Lourenco from Massachusetts to help me at my booth. We had a great time and got to see some serious pieces too. Tons of Blackguard Teles and a few late 50's bursts. Lots and lots of really expensive gear. (Yes we can nickname this annual guitar show 'The Dallas Droolfest' and it would fit. Ok, so yeah, the show was great.... but the real magic happened at the jams. Dallas is a great place for musicians to get out there on any night of the week and hit up a jam. I met an awesome bass player named Jay Dronge. (I myself am a bass player, so we really hit it off. The night I met him.... I walked into a bar on a Thursday night that I heard a good jam was about to happen. I walk up to the guitar player/singer Jackie and asked him 'Where's the bass player at"? He replied, "I dunno, he should be walking in the door any minute". Anyways, Jay walks in and I let him set up.... then I introduce myself as a bass player from SLC and asked if it was ok that I get up for a few tunes. (My singer was in town that week also and we got to tear it up a bit). He says "Sure". He then pulls out a '63 Fender Precision bass with only a small amount of finish left on it. I said, "Whoa, nice bass! ...... Wait a sec, I have something for you to check out". So I went out to my van and grabbed my '58 and '59 P Basses. Needless to say, he was in love. He didn't like my '58 so much. It's really a boomy thumper compared to the '59 which is a phenominally sustaining rocker. He dug it. We hung out a lot that week, I gigged every night I was there and that was a real treat for me. Also, the guys that put on the Arlington Vintage guitar show put on a 2 day jam at the hotel everyone stayed at. Nice big stage and PA and everything. What a freakin blast that whole trip was. I can't wait to go back.
New Jersey AmpFest...
This trip was extra special for me. I got to meet and hang out with one of my heros, Jess Oliver and his wife Betty. Jess Oliver was VP at Ampeg in the 50's and 60's and is responsibe for giving us his timeless invention, the Ampeg Portaflex B-15, B-12 and B-18 and their various configurations. He's also the guy that is responsible for keeping the production of Ampeg's monster of an amp, the unrivaled SVT. The pres of ampeg wasn't into loud music and would not have approved of the production of such an amp.... THANKS JESS!!!! Besides getting to hang out with my hero, I got to meet a lot of the guys from a few message boards that get together every year for NJ AmpFest. Thanks Wheels!!! After the show, I had nothing to do except for sitting in my hotel room and watch bad tv... so I took a trip into the city to meet my friend Zeke from Matt Umanov Guitars. Unfortunately, he had the day off but I get to meet the rest of the crew at Umanov and fell head over heels for a '32 Gibson L-00. Oh my God this guitar was fantastic. Nice open sounding top and just played like a dream. Tone for days!!!! Well, I get back home.... get online and check out Umanov's site.... the guitar was sold. My soul is crushed.
......... I'll find another one. See you next time Zeke!
