Overview

This website and its component parts is a document of my time working for SOBO as an Audio Assistant at the Sydney Football Stadium & Sydney Olympic Stadium as part of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. It is an assessment task for MAS311 in BMedia at Macquarie Uni.

I am exceedingly grateful for the opportunity to have worked on the Games as I believe perhaps the best way to experience the phenomenon is to be part of it.

Perhaps most satisfying was to be able to see from a distance, the cultural transformation that Sydney underwent. It was a time where the cynicism and apathy which is such an inherent and valuable characteristic of Sydney as a city was overtaken by genuine enthusiasm and feelings of pride for the nation and the city - manifest most obviously in the often deafening crowds, at my venue at least. When else would you see most of the city carrying or wearing the flag?

The Olympics were all engrossing - dominating discussion in all circles.

My time has been unforgettable and I appreciate the work that went into the Host Broadcast Training Program.

This website contains:

  • A daily diary of my experiences with SOBO
  • Personality profiles on each of the fellow technical students working at my venue, with accompanying downloadable realaudio soundbytes of their experiences with SOBO
  • A six and a half minute audio documentary on my time at the games.
  • images from my time at the games
  • Plus some other banter along the way...including a bonus desktop goodie - official liam@ thegames desktop wallpaper, which you can get by clicking here - zipped for your convenience

I'd appreciate yer comments.

Thanks, Liam Sept/Oct/Nov, 2000.
