In Memory of Oreo. . .
July '98 -- November '02
The cutest little hegdehog. I adopted her on June 9th, 00.
Fun Hedgie Facts:
Hedgehogs are insectivores.
There have been fossil remains of their ancestors that go back to the age of dinosaurs.
Hedgehogs have few natural enemies, some of which include birds of prey, badgers, fox and man.
The African Pygmy Hedgehog is a relative of the shrew and mole and are native to the jungles of Africa.
When frightened, Hedgehogs will curl up into a  tight ball and stick their quills out. They will also hiss and jerk. However, because Oreo was handled regularly, she'd usually lay her quills down so that they felt more like coarse hair, which made it soft to touch.
More about my pet:
Oreo lived with me, well Ben, in San Antonio. She was very docile! Oreo lived to be 4 and a half. She developed Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome. She lived a good life even up until the end. She died peacefully in her sleep on November 5, 2002. A great friend who will be missed. To find out more about Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome see the link below (it is one I relied on a lot)!
