Ibanag
The language spoken by the people of Cagayan, Isabela, and other areas of Region II in northeastern Luzon. Nearly half a million people speak this lingua franca used before Ilocano became the more dominant language around the region.Inspite of this Ibanag still survives. Ibanag was the language used by the first Spanish missionaries as a lingua franca and was taught to other ethnic groups around the area. Ybanak, Ibanag, Ybanag are all the same language.
Unlike Tagalog and many other major dialects of the Philippines, Ibanag has a more extensive alphabet, consisting of letters not found in the other languages of the islands.
