It's not summer unless I write a story involving dead cats. Today, I wrote my third story on, you guessed it, dead cats. This is actually an update on last year's dead cats story. This guy who had more than 30 cats in his home pled guilty to three counts of animal cruelty and got a year suspended sentence, three years of probation, a $3,000 fine. He's not allowed to own any pets and he has to pay the town of Southington the $15,8000 they spent to clean up the dead cats and garbage that were piled in his house.
The consolation is that this year, I did not have to go to the house. Last year when I went and talked to one of the neighbors it was dirty but didn't smell too bad. The worst was two years ago when an apartment was found full of dead and dying cats.  Animal control left the back door open in hopes that any cats still alive inside would get out. It smelled ungodly and there were fleas everywhere. I actually went home and showered afterwards.
This week has sucked in terms of stories. I have to find two for tomorrow and I have no idea what I'm going to write about. Maybe I'll get luckly and someone will call me with an idea again. I can only hope.
On the bright side, I get two days off at the start of next week. What to do, what to do? On the negative side I have to pay the city of Meriden my car taxes. The leetches. That money better not go towards this over-the-top downtown redevelopment plan they have that will cost $130 million. That's right, I said $130 million. You can read all about it
here.
Here's hoping next week finds me in better spirits.
