Between Heaven and Earth

There's a place between Heaven and Earth
That I visit in my dreams.
Nothing can go wrong there,
Or at least that's what it seems.
I've never seen a child cry
Or men fall down in pain.
I've never seen a flower die,
Or the deserts curse the rain.

There's a place between Heaven and Earth
That I visit when I sleep,
A fairy tale world where nothing hurts,
And what you find is yours to keep.
I've found a perfect love there,
A love that is in vain,
For this world is only a dream;
When I'm awake, I am insane.

There's a place between Heaven and Earth
That I visit when I cry.
My love awaits my presence there,
While I wait for the day I die.
A perfect place, a sane place,
Where I do not feel dumb.
The first place, the only place,
Where I don't have to run.

There's a place between Heaven and Earth,
This place hath not a name.
There are no padded walls there,
No bars or locks or chains.
No drugs to calm me down,
Nothing to induce my sleep.
No doctors to poke and prod,
No one to make me weep.

There's a place between Heaven and Earth
That I visit in my dreams,
Dreams induced by the hated drugs,
Where nothing is as it seems.
