Lawe trials GSM navigation
Lawe has been trialing navigation with the aid of a standard GSM mobile telephone.
This is used to tell you which cell you are in, and with the aid of an annotated map, navigation is possible.
The cell is the nearest mast. It is shown on the screen as a number. Measuring distance is also possible by means of 'pinging'.
Lawe dabbles in Mobile data
Experiments are being done to develop a mobile data system using a Z88 laptop, a UHF radio module and a receiver. If sucessful it could allow data communications within a local area, and anywhere within that area. A similar system is being tried using a cordless phone. This would allow data and voice to be sent, as well as DTMF tone paging.
