Data and Decoding
This is little talked about on CB. As well as voice, decoding the data on CB also interests me. It is not legal in the UK to transmit data. There are plans to change the law regarding data on CB.
Packet Radio
Used to send computer data over a simplex radio channel. It uses bursts of data and very reliable error checking. Can be decoded by soundcard and AGW Packet Engine.(A link will be added soon).Used for general 'chat' comms.
Can be found on EU channel 24, this is from Germany mainly.
You can hear Packet radio by clicking
here.
SSTV
I've heard this used on UK Ch. 11,10 and 12. Used to send slow-scanning pictures over radio, hence Slow Scan TV.
This is what SSTV sounds like
Foreign Cordless Telephones
These are long-range cordless telephones used abroad. They mainly seem to come from Eastern Europe and Russia. They create a lot of interference. They are voice and data signals, and 'on hold' music can also sometimes be heard. You can hear these on UK channels 28 (data & voice) 31 (mainly data?) and 35 (data and voice) and many, many more. Sound sample.
Have you heard or worked me on eleven or just want to chat? Send a message.
Mystery Signals
Can anyone help me identify some of these odd sounds? The fun part is- I don't yet have an audio sample! So frequencies only and listen for  yourselves!
The latest oddity is on UK channel 33. I can't really describe it except that it is a sort of screeching tone changing slightly every five or so seconds. It seems to be on all the time. It's not a mode I know and its not any of mine listed under "Data and Decoding".
Does anyone else hear the periodic "brrp".."brrp" noise on UK Ch. 5? A sort of rasping tone.Very short bursts, sounds like many stations on same frequency. Could be pulse-modulated telemetry, or paging.
Any ideas? Send them to me at bottom of page
