| Mr. Kenneth Coultas Director of Color Guard Programs Lawrence County High School Band Kenneth was born in Harlan, KY, moved to Tell City, IN, at age 3, and moved to Linton, IN, at the age of 16. His performing career began in third grade when he participated in the Miss Jaycees' Baton Twirling Competition where he won 1st place two years in a row. He joined band in the fifth grade to play saxophone. As a sixth grader, he began his color guard career by performing a flag duet at half-time of a high school varsity basketball game. He participated in band and color guard throughout junior high and high school. and .became the first male to try-out and be chosen for the Rifle Line at his second high school, Linton-Stockton High, where he graduated from in May of 1985. The summer following graduation, Kenneth began his color guard teaching career, teaching the rifle lines at Linton-Stockton and Evansville Harrison. Beginning in the fall of '85, he attended David Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. In the spring of '86 he was hired to begin the color guard program at David Lipscomb High School, a position which he held for the next four years. While a student at Lipscomb, he participated in the Concert Band, Jazz Band, Early Music Consort, A Cappella Singers, Summer Chamber Singers, and Singarama--a student directed musical competition--which he directed in his first Senior year. He was also a member and officer of the Kappa Alpha chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. In the summer of 1988, he was reintroduced to and began dating Sally Hughes whom he eventually married in July of 1990. He taught the LCHS Band camp for the first time in July of 1990. Two weeks later, he and Sally moved to Indianapolis to begin their teaching careers at Indianapolis Christian School, where they started a small color guard that performed before the National Anthem at ICS basketball games. They returned to Lawrenceburg the following summer where they currently live. Since that time he has served in a full time capacity at the director of color guards and helped, along with Sally, to create the winter guard program. He has also served on the band camp staff at Loretto, Mt. Pleasant, and Lewis Co. high schools. He currently is an exploratory teacher at E. O Coffman Middle School in Lawrenceburg where he is sponsor of the color guard club. |
| Mrs. Sally Coultas Director of Winter Guard Fall Color Guard Instructor & Design Staff Lawrence County High School Band Sally is a native of Lawrenceburg. She is a 1985 graduate of Lawrence County High School and a 1990 graduate of David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she recieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Education. (And where she and Kenneth met.) She currently is the French teacher at Giles County High School in Pulaski, Tennessee, where she is sponsor of the International Club, and the French National Honor Society. She is as a member of the Tennessee Teachers Study Council and was nominated to Who's Who Among America's Teachers. While at Lipscomb, she participated in the Toulouse Overseas Program, a semester of study in Toulouse, France. She also was a charter member of the Kappa Chi chapter of Alpha Mu Gamma International Foreign Language Honor Fraternity, serving as chapter president her senior year. Sally participated in Singarama, an annual student written and directed musical program and was a member of the Lipscomb Summer Chamber Singers. She was listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. Besides working with the color guard in Lawrenceburg, she has been involved with the Lawrence Couny Oratorial Society and the Lawrenceburg Community Theater. She and Kenneth are members of the College Place church of Christ. Sally began working with the LCHS Guard in the winter of 1992 with the inception of the Lawrence County Winter Guard (Golden Guard). She has been actively involved with the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit, serving as the first SCGC Contest Director from 1995-99. Sally is in her 11th year as a Life Science and French teacher at Giles County High School in Pulaski, TN. |
