Indonesian police find new international terrorist network
JAKARTA, July 17 (Xinhuanet) --
Indonesian Police Chief General Da'i Bachtiar Wednesday reported
the finding of an alleged terroristnetwork identified as "Nusantara".
Talking to reporters after a
hearing with the House of Representatives at the Parliament
building, Bachtiar said that theNusantara group has operated its
terrorist actions in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the
Philippines.
Bachtiar said that the finding of
the terrorist network was spurred by the latest information
developed by the police of the countries, particularly due to the
arrest and investigation of thelatest terrorist cases.
Asked whether the group has any
connection with Abu Bakar Basyir, a hardline Moslem group leader
in the country, Bachtiar said that the police now is investigating
the case based on the received information from counterparts in
the other three countries.
Anticipating on the possible
further impact of the group's action to the countries, Indonesian
police has set up an information exchanging channel with the other
three countries, he said.
He admitted that some terror bombs
in the past were associated with the group. The information
received by the police shows that one who perpetrated the terror
actions in the past here involves in the Nusantara group.
"We could not get more
information, because of the person is running away to overseas
now," he said.
He added, so far the police has not
yet known the purpose of the Nusantara group, they will keep
investigating on it. Enditem
