Susilo warns of act of provocation in Maluku

JAKARTA (JP): Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono deeply regretted Saturday's bomb blast in Maluku and appealed to the people in the province to be wary of this act of provocation.

"Security in Maluku, especially in Ambon has improved. However, because the root of the problem has not been thoroughly dealt with, we have to be wary of certain groups who would try to exploit this situation and disrupt the peace," Susilo was quoted as saying by El Shinta radio station.

The explosion near Patimura University's polytechnic school in the Sirimau subdistrict injured 53 people, mostly shoppers and students.

Susilo did not identify the groups of troublemakers by name but said that their popularity and appeal would wane as peace is being restored in Maluku.

The government has ordered the civil emergency authority in Maluku to investigate the bombing, he said.

Maluku remained calm on Sunday in spite of the bombing, according to reports reaching Jakarta.

"I'm glad that the people in Ambon were not provoked by this incident," Susilo said.
