JAKARTA (Agencies): Indonesian President MegawatiSukarnoputri on Sunday denounced the weekend bombings of two discotheques in the Bali beach resort that claimed up to 182 lives as "shameful" and vowed to capture the perpetrators.

"The government of Indonesia strongly denounces this shameful bombing in Bali," Megawati said.

She added that according to the latest casualty figures, 182 people were killed and 332 injured by the blasts that ripped through two discos in Kuta town shortly before midnight Saturday.

"Security authorities are working hard to capture the perpetrators and bring them to justice," Megawati told a hastily convened press conference at her residence here she would leave immediately for the resort island.

Megawati then left for the Halim Perdanakusumah military airbase for the half-hour flight to Bali, taking with her armed forces chief General Endriartono Sutarto and Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayudha, among others.

Bali Police chief Brigadier General Budi Setyawan has vowed to resign within the month if he does not find the culprits in what has become the island's bloodiest tragedy in its recent history.
