Govt will continue to battle
against all separatists
JAYAPURA, Papua (Antara): The
government will continue to fight against any efforts by
separatists who are interested in freeing themselves from the
country, a senior minister said on Wednesday.
"Currently there are two
(armed) separatist movements in Indonesia, one in Aceh and the
other one is in Papua. We will continue our attempts to stop such
futile activities," Coordinating Minister for Political and
Security Affairs, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, told students from
various universities inJayapura.
"The people of Indonesia will
not allow any separatist movement in one province or another to
secede from the country."
Susilo added that the government
had received full support on Indonesia's integrity from the U.S.
and countries such as those grouped in ASEAN and the European
Union as well as countries in the South and Southwest Pacific.
"These countries have conveyed
their request that the government deal with the separatist
movements in a peaceful manner which we agree with," he said.
"But we have our own special
measures to deal with armed rebel groups," he added in an
apparent reference to the ongoing military crackdown on Aceh.
