CURFEW ENDED – Advised by local military and police authorities,
acting governor Sinyo Sarundayang today officially ended the
curfew for the city of Ambon (which – by the way – during the
last few months had been hardly enforced any more). The curfew
(from 10.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m.) was first initiated on June 27,
2000, when the “Civil Emergency State” for the Provinces of
the Moluccas and the North Moluccas was declared (Report 5).
2. TOURISM – The Moluccas participated in an exhibition on
Travel Exchange in Pontianak (Island of Kalimantan/Borneo). Seven
foreign travel agencies (from Taiwan, Australia and the
Netherlands) assured to include the Moluccas in their activities.
3. MARCHING CONTEST – The whole day long various équipes (à 25
participants) marched through the city of Ambon, trying to win the
trophy. No fewer than 796 groups participated. Thousands of
spectators lined the route.
4. RMS FLAG HOISTING – Two RMS flags were spotted fluttering in
the Batugajah-Atas area, city of Ambon, today and were
consequently pulled down by security forces. No visible reaction
followed.
