UNIVERSITAS PATTIMURA RESUMES ACTIVITIES IN POKA – Tutorial
activities of the national Pattimura University will resume in
September at the rebuilt campus at Poka, on the opposite side of
the bay of Ambon. Rector magnificus Nus Huliselan declared to the
newsmedia that there is enough room for all of the eight

masses on July 4, 2000, after which lecturing took place at
several alternative locations in the city of Ambon, however, never
separating christian and muslim students. Today a special initial
lecture was given at the Poka Campus by the military and police
chiefs. It was attended by more than a thousand students. They
were urged not to be s! cared coming to Poka, “for the conflict
is over now”. Besides, strong military and police units will be
stationed around, and military trucks will stand by for transport
of the students. At the lecture were also present a number of
professors and lecturers, and some local adat chiefs.
2. SOLDIER SHOT – A soldier by the name of Suroyo was shot dead
last night in a house in the Sam Ratulangi Street, Ambon. The
bullet came from a SS-1 standard rifle. Both military chief
commander Agustadi Sasongko Purnomo and police chief commander
Bambang Sutrisno declared not to have a clue yet to the identity
of the assassin, but it will initially be assumed that it was an
act of personal resentment. Solving the case has been entrusted to
the military police (“Poldam”). The body will be flown to
Ambarawa, East Java, and handed to the deceased’s family.
