THE
SITUATION IN AMBON / MOLUCCAS - Report No. 378 2003-19-08
|
Ambon, August 19, 2003
1.
RMS FLAGS RAISED In the early morning of Indonesias 58th
commemoration of Independence Day, August 17, two flags of the
separatist RMS movement were detected flowing at bamboo stakes in
the Kudamati area of the city of Ambon. However, this incident did
not disturb the general elation of thousands of citizens that
assembled on and around the citys festivity square, not only to
hear the usual ceremony and speeches, but also to watch
parachutists descend from above and popsingers perform on the
stage.
2. LETHAL DEVICE SECURED An employee of ours happened to
witness a big bomb being neutralized by security forces today at
11.30 a.m. It was found hidden in a plastic shopping bag, behind a
minishop near the bridge not far from the Public Works office at
Mardika, city of Ambon.
