THE
SITUATION IN AMBON / MOLUCCAS - Report No. 368 2003-22-05
|
Ambon, May 22, 2003
1.
FKM TO OPEN BRANCH IN NEW ZEALAND – The separatist movement
Front Kedaulatan Maluku of Dr. Aleks Manuputty aims to open an
office in Auckland, New Zealand, next July. Upon learning this,
Moluccas’ military chief commander Agustadi said that any RMS/FKM
supporters that to this purpose intend to leave the Moluccas for
Auckland, will be arrested. There will be cooperation with loal
police forces to that end.
2. MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE OF ABU JIHAD BROUGHT TO LIGHT –
South-East Asian Jamaah Islamiyah leader Tengku Fauzi Hasbi, alias
Abu Jihad, together with his two comrades, Edy Saputra and Ahmad
Syuridup disappeared mysteriously from the Nisma hotel in the
Ambon neighbourhood of Waihaong last February 22. The three of
them were notorious activists promoting Negara Islam Indonesia (NII
– The Islamic State of Indonesia). They were never heard of any
more since then. Now at last their bodies have been discovered and
exhumed yesterday at a plot of land near the STAIN Islamic Academy
of Religion at! Kebun Cengkeh, a neighbourhood at the outskirts of
the city of Ambon. Seven persons have been detained as being
suspected of murdering the three of them, among whom Police
Brigader Mohamad Syarif Tarabubun, member of the Ambon precinct
police intelligence department. Two others, Fitra and Puma, are
still on the run. One of those detained, named Herumanto alias
Yanto, confessed having been involved in the murder, but gave as
sole motive the greed for money. He indeed draw a total of 48
million rupiahs from Edy Saputra’s BCA Bank account after having
obtained the victim’s ATM Pin number before murdering him. This
fact, discovered by police intelligence, started the unveiling of
the whole plot. This case of abduction and ensuing murder is
rather extensively reported on in today’s local newspapers.
