JAKARTA (JP): In an
attempt to clear land mines in several areas in Ambon, Pattimura
Military Commander Maj. Gen. Djoko Santoso asked the Indonesian
Military headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday to lend bomb
disposal equipment for defusing mines.
"Bomb disposal equipment is badly needed as we only have
detectors to locate the land mines," said Djoko, while
suggesting that the explosives were planted during the
disturbances and had not been removed, Antara reported.
He added that the land mines had claimed the lives of some
people and injured several military officers and civilians working
on land that had been converted into a plantation.
The latest explosion occurred on Sunday in Hatiwe Kecil,
Sirimau district, injuring two air force personnel.
Djoko said that soldiers found and disposed of two land mines
in Suli village, Salahutu district, on Tuesday.
