Honeymoon
Chapter 4: More Explanations
Monday morning, Lennie got a call at an ungodly hour, dragging him out of bed in what felt like the middle of the night.  He hurriedly showered and dressed, trying not to disturb Jack any more than the phone already had.  As he heard the front door gently closing, Jack sighed and rolled over, hating that Lennie had to do this, but knowing that it was part of the job.  This was one of the rare times when he seriously wished Lennie would consider retiring.

The detectives spent most of the morning at the crime scene and canvassing the surrounding area, looking for witnesses.  For once, fate smiled on them.  They found an eyewitness who wasnt homeless, wasnt drunk, was actually somebody they could put on the stand at a trial.  Now if they could just get their hands on the perp . . .

It was almost noon when they wrapped things up and headed toward their cars.  Hey, Ed.  Ill see you back at the station after lunch.
Ed gave him a pained look.  What, you newlyweds going for a lunch quickie?
Lennie laughed.  I wish.  Now that you mention it, may have to set that up one of these days.  But no, today I was hoping to catch somebody else for lunch

A little while later he walked into One Police Plaza, heading for the Administration department.  Sure enough, there was Rey, digging his way through the usual mountain of paperwork.  Of course, one good thing about an admin job was that the paperwork WAS the job, so usually there was no question about finding him here.
Rey!
Curtis looked up at the sound of the familiar voice.  Lennie!  What brings you over to this neck of the woods?
Was hoping I could take you to lunch.
You buying?  How could I turn down such a generous offer!  Lennie laughed and grabbed his arm.  Come on, lets get out of here.

As they walked down the street to a nearby restaurant, Lennie talked about the mornings activities.  Rey jumped all over it, wanting to know every detail.  It was painfully obvious to Lennie how much his old partner missed the work.  As they settled at their table, he finally asked the question hed been wondering about for a while.  So, Rey, how come youre still working admin?  I thought maybe now youd be able to get back on the street.

Rey sighed and shook his head.  It just wont work, Lennie.  One of us has to be home for the girls, and since Im the only one of us left   He stopped, the pain still a little too close to the surface.  It had only been a few months since Debras death.  Lennie reached across the table, laid his hand on his friends arm.  Rey looked up at him, managing a weak smile. Thanks, Lennie.
I told you before, Rey.  Anything you need, just ask.  And that includes someone to talk to.
I know, Lennie.  Its OK, really.  Just sneaks up on me every once in a while.
Lennie nodded, gave Reys arm a final squeeze and let go.

So what about you, Lennie?  Whats up that made you come all the way over here to take me out to lunch?
Lennie laughed.  What, I cant just come to see my old partner?
Rey just looked at him, one eyebrow raised.
Ok, ok, there is something I wanted to tell you.  I went and did something I swore Id never do again, Rey.

Curtis looked at him, curious.  He could only think of one thing Lennie was that adamant about that hed be happy about.  Lennie?  Are you saying what I think youre saying?
Lennie smiled and held up his left hand.  I know its not legal, but we wanted to make it official.  Get rid of the assumptions, make the promises.
Rey sat back, stunned.  Slowly, a smile crept across his face.  And we werent invited?
Lennie laughed.  Well, it was actually kind of unplanned. He gave Rey the whole story ok, except for the part about Mike including their impromptu ceremony at sunset over the Hudson River.
Rey was grinning ear to ear by the end.  Damn, Lennie, I never would have expected McCoy to be such a romantic!
Oh, youd be surprised.  You should have seen what he did last year on Christmas Eve.
I dont think I want to know!  They laughed together.  Seriously, Lennie.  I dont think Ive ever seen you so happy.  Congratulations.
Thanks, Rey.  It means a lot to hear you say that.
Rey reached out, his turn to squeeze Lennies arm.  Tell you what.  Why dont you and Jack come over next weekend.  You havent seen the girls since the funeral.  And its about time we had something to celebrate.
You going to tell them what were celebrating?
Rey nodded.  Yeah.  Its ok, Lennie, actually they already know.  Olivia saw you two at the funeral and started asking questions.
Oh, god, Rey
Hey, its ok.  Gave us a good reason to talk about it.  I dont want them growing up with any of the baggage that almost messed us up.  He looked away, still annoyed at himself for the way he had treated his friend when he had been inadvertently outed.
Lennie could see Reys regret over that incident.  Dont worry about it, were past that.
Thanks, Lennie.  So, how about dinner Saturday?
Let me talk to Jack; but I think that should be fine.

Back at his desk, Rey was still smiling.  He really couldnt remember ever seeing Lennie so happy.  As he was about to dive back into the paperwork, the phone rang.  Curtis.  Oh, hey, LT, good to hear from you!  What is this, old home week?  Yeah, I just had lunch with Lennie

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Serena sat at her desk, not paying any attention to the work in front of her.  She had managed to avoid thinking about it all weekend, but as soon as she got here this morning, her brain just wouldnt let go.  Jack and Lennie Briscoe?  They had to be putting her on.  It was a prank, playing games with the new kid on the block.  Wasnt it?  But they HAD been wearing matching rings.  If it was a prank, it was a pretty expensive one.
What if it was true?  Jack McCoy was gay?  That didnt make much sense to her, either.  She had been warned about his reputation.  Although everybody did comment on how he hadnt really been the same since that Kincaid woman had died in an auto accident.  Maybe he had loved her so much he just couldnt love another woman, so he had turned to a man?  She smiled; it really was romantic.  Both that he was still so devoted to her, and that he could love Lennie enough to change teams as it were.  Very romantic.  If it was true.  She was going to have to find out, somehow
A tap on the door broke her reverie.  She looked up to see Jack standing there.  Morning.  You busy?
Nothing that cant wait a bit.  Whats up?
I wanted to bring you something this morning, to apologize for that scene on Friday.  But I realized I had no idea what you like.  I got into enough trouble last time so I decided maybe we could run over to Kingmans and I could buy you breakfast?
Serena smiled at him, touched by the sweet gesture.  Besides, it would give her a chance to ask a few questions.  That would be nice.  Thanks.  As they headed out, she couldnt resist asking.  What do you mean you got into enough trouble last time?
Jack grinned.  Last time I broke in a new assistant.  Most of the women Ive worked with have been so diet conscious.  But Abbie, your predecessor, wasnt.  One day shortly after she got here, I picked up dinner since we would be working late.  I didnt ask, just assumed she wanted a salad.  She ended up eating MY ribs, said I could graze on the salad.  Cured me of making assumptions.
Serena couldnt help laughing.  Would have worked with me.
Ill remember that.  But even more important  coffee?
She nodded.  Black, one pack of the blue stuff.  You?
Cream and 2 sugar.  Real, when possible.
She laughed again.  Thats why I started drinking it black  I HATE that powdered excuse for milk.
He got two coffees, fixed as prescribed, and one of his favorite sweet rolls.  She passed on the pastry front.  No fair.  I brought you over here to find out what to bribe you with!
Oh, all right.  I usually dont let myself, but for a bribe you can always go with a boston cream.
He added the donut to the order, paid, and they grabbed a table.
She looked at him curiously.  The ring was still there.  So Jack, about Friday   Was it just a prank, or are you two really together?  Was he actually blushing?
He took a deep breath.  We are.  Actually, its been common knowledge around here since April.  Im surprised you didnt hear that on the grapevine.
Serena shook her head.  Im not really tapped into the gossip circuits.  She grinned.  Yet.
That got a chuckle from Jack.
She sipped at her coffee.  Jack, can I ask a personal question?
You can ask  cant guarantee Ill answer.
I have heard SOME gossip  mostly how you always used to date your female assistants.  Howd you end up with Lennie?
You cut right to the chase, dont you?  To tell you the truth, I really dont know.  A little over three years ago, his daughter was killed.  We were all worried about him; Lennies an alcoholic, fell off the wagon about two years before that, the night Claire died.  She could almost see the shadow pass over him, but he quickly shook it off.  I invited him to stay with me until after the funeral, so he would have to face it alone.  Strangely enough, we just really got along great, and he ended up staying.  We were roommates for almost three years before that mess last Thanksgiving weekend.
Wait a minute  didnt I hear something about that on the news?  Somebody in the DAs office attacked by an ex-con he had put away?
Jack nodded, getting lost in his thoughts.  I almost died that day, Serena.  If Lennie hadnt been meeting me for dinner, Owens would have pounded me into a pulp.  He saved my life.  But even before he got there, all I could think about was how much he meant to me.  Our friendship had grown into something more while we werent looking, but it took me almost dying for us to see it.  I still dont understand it all, but I do know that I love him.  Weve had some ups and downs since then, including my idiotic infatuation with Danielle Melnick.  But this time when we put it back together, we wanted to make it last.  We really didnt plan a wedding, it just happened.
He looked up at her, coming back to the here and now.  Serena smiled at him.  Thats so sweet!  So thats why you were out of the office last week?  Ran away to get married?
Would you believe it all started just as a date on Wednesday?  Im serious, this was NOT planned.  It just all came together, we made our promises to each other, and spent the night celebrating.  And most of the day Thursday.  His face was getting decidedly red.
She laughed.  OK, Romeo, I get the picture.
He finished his coffee.  Again, Im sorry about Friday. I had seen you noticing the ring, and just couldnt resist.
Its OK, Jack.  But I will get you back one of these days, when you least expect it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The early morning was turning into a late night; by the time Lennie finally got home it was 9PM.  Oh, god, I am beat.  Jack got up from the couch, setting aside a pile of legal briefs he had been reading through, and pulled him into his arms.
Lennie sighed and leaned heavily against his lover.  Jack gently kissed his head.  Tell you what.  How about I give you a nice backrub?
Ohhhhh, Lennie moaned.  That sounds perfect.

Jack slipped his arm around Lennies waist and pulled him toward the bedroom.  He hung up Lennies suit, then tossed his own clothes in the general direction of the laundry hamper.  Lennie sprawled naked on the bed; Jack retrieved a bottle of massage oil from the dresser and warmed it in his hands before gently spreading it across the broad shoulders.  Lennie moaned as he worked his way down the spine, his hands spreading relaxation almost just by their touch alone.

He slid his hands lightly over Lennies ass, realizing that he was much too tired for anything playful, and began working the legs, again feeling the tension releasing under his touch.  Only the occasional moan or sigh let him know Lennie hadnt fallen asleep.  He smiled; he wouldnt have minded, but he knew Lennie didnt like to miss a moment of a massage.  He took the massage all the way down to the toes, then gently rested his hands on the feet, holding still to end the massage.   Lennie sighed again as he grabbed a towel and gently wiped off the excess oil, then crawled into the bed beside him.

He propped himself up on some pillows, then pulled Lennie into his arms, head pillowed on his chest.  His fingers feathered through the dark hair.  Feel better?
Lennie smiled and snuggled closer.  Much.  Mmm, youre good to me.
Jack chuckled.  You make it easy.
Oh, before I forget.  Had lunch with Rey he wants us to come over for dinner Saturday.  Says its about time they had something to celebrate.
They?
Olivia noticed us together at the funeral, and started asking questions.  The girls know that were a couple.
Oh.  Jack wasnt sure how hed handle questions from an 11 year old that he wasnt all that sure of himself.  But this was obviously important to Lennie, so.  That sounds nice.
Lennie hugged him.  Dont worry, youll be fine.

They laid there for a couple of minutes, and Jack thought Lennie was falling asleep until his hand started gently teasing at Jacks nipple.
Jack leaned down to kiss his forehead.  Ive been thinking, Lennie.  How would you feel about getting a new bed?
Lennie chuckled.  A king-sized one?
Well, yeah.
Lennies hand switched sides.  Gee, I wonder where you got that idea?
Jack laughed and shrugged.  A good idea is a good idea, wherever it comes from.
Youve got a point.  And it would be kinda nice to pick something out together really make it ours.
Yeah, I was thinking that too.
So what do you want?
Nothing fancy.  But there is one thing
Lennie looked up at him as his voice trailed off.  What?
Jack bit his lip.  Do you remember Memorial Day?
How could he forget.  After Debra Curtis funeral, Jack had gotten into a very strange mood.  They had come back to the apartment and made love furiously, needing to feel alive.  Jack had started out rough, and Lennie ended up tying him to the bed and teasing him until he just couldnt take it anymore.  When Jack had finally come, it had been explosive.  Oh yeah.  I was afraid I pushed it too far.
Believe me, you didnt.  Id really like to do that again sometime, so the headboard has to have places we could tie to.
Lennies hand slid further south; sure enough, the memory of that day was having the same effect on Jack as it was on him.  He laughed, gently stroking the stiff cock.  You got a deal on that.
Jack smiled, hugged him tight.  I know youre tired, Lennie.  You dont have to start anything.
I know.  But thanks for saying it.  The fingers didnt stop.  To prove that he was more than willing, Lennie crawled on top, making sure Jack could feel his answering hardness pressed tight against him.  Jack moaned at the pressure, just in time for Lennie to claim his mouth in a long, slow kiss.

Jacks arms wrapped around him, pulling him close, hands sliding down the length of his back, cupping his ass as they pushed against each other.  Finally Lennie couldnt stand it anymore; he moved down, leaving a trail of kisses until finally he took that hardness into his mouth.  Oh, yes! Jack moaned.  His hand slid down further, caressing the balls, fingers probing back even further.  Jack smiled, knowing where Lennie was going.  He reached for the other pillow and tossed it down to Lennie as he lifted his legs.  Lennie stuffed it under his hips, grinning at Jack as he came up to the nightstand to get the lube.  He stopped for a kiss before returning.  You did all the work with the massage; now its my turn to make you feel good.

Im all yours, Lennie.
Lennie smiled, reached down and took Jacks left hand in his, bringing it to his lips, his tongue tracing over the ring.  And Im all yours.
They looked into each others eyes for a few moments, then Lennie got back to business, applying the lube and slipping a finger inside.  Oh, yeah, Jack sighed, thoroughly enjoying the sensation.  Shortly, a second and then a third finger slipped in.  Lennie grinned down at him, remembering how awesome it had felt when Jack had sucked him while Mike was fucking him last weekend.  He slid up a bit and reached out with his other hand to pull Jacks cock back into his mouth.  Ohhhh!!!!!  He could tell Jack was really loving this.  He brought Jack almost to the edge, then backed off, sliding his fingers out.  God, Lennie dont stop now!

Lennie laughed as he came back to the nightstand, reaching for a kleenex for his hand. Patience, Jack.  In a minute youll have all of me.  He quickly lubed up his already dripping cock and moved back into position.  Jack was good and ready, and he slipped right in, relishing the tight warmth.  He knew Jack was close, so he tried the trick Mike had used with him once alternating fast and slow, not letting it get too far each time.  A constant stream of guttural sounds came from Jacks throat, as the pleasure almost tormented him.  Finally, even Lennie couldnt take any more and he began hammering, hard, his hand finally back on Jacks cock, pulling them both over the edge with a cry.

Lennie pulled out and stumbled into the bathroom to clean up, bringing back a warm washcloth for Jack.  While he was at it, he wandered through the rest of the apartment, shutting down for the night.  Finally, he crawled back into bed.

I guess you werent so tired after all!
Oh, I was.  But that massage was just what I needed.  That, and just being with you.  He yawned.  NOW Im ready for sleep.
Jack laughed and reached for the light as Lennie snuggled in behind him.
