Here is a list of the sacred woods of the Celts...


Rowan

Powerful wood of the sidhe, great for wands and cauldron fires, used for magickal divination and protection.  It's berries feed the Faeries.

Alder

Bran's tree.  Death-in-life aspect because it doesn't die in Winter.  Good for sovereignty wand and for strength.  It's flowers make green dye, and it's bark red dye.

Willow

Wands are used for weddings and Witch brooms.  Good for beauty and love.

Ash

Protector.  Never cut down by the Celts.  It's wood is used in many staffs for psychic strength, power, and healing.

Hawthorn

Only brought into the house at Beltane.  It harbors the Faeries and should never be destroyed.  Good for music, poetry, and psychic ability.

Oak

Mighty and sacred.  Oak groves are great places to do magic.  Oak struck by lightning is most powerful.  Acorn is for invisibility, all magickal powers, strength, and fertility. Merlin's favorite tree.

Holly

Sun-King.  Used for fertility, protection, is steadfast in adversity, increases strength, and helps you to win against hardships and challenges.

Hazel

Helps you to become a person of many arts and skills.  Heightens the five senses.

Apple

Sacred tree of Avalon or Apple Land or Island of Apples.  Three apples are hung on the sacred silver branch want.  Good for healing the sick, helping you to sleep, protecting your heart.  An apple cut through the middle forms the Witch's star, a pentacle in the middle.

Grapevine

Underworld and Merrow associations.  Power of the Triple Goddess, the Morrigan.  Giver of life.

Ivy

The feminine side of holly, but very strong.  Symbol of endurance, stability, and deep psychic powers.  Ruled by Saturn.

Water reed or broom plant

It's flexible twigs bend and connect this world with the underwater realms.

Blackthorn

Weapon of protection, neutralizes anything bad that can happen.

Elder

Symbol of the "Good God," the Dagda.  Good for many skills and arts and stability.  It's berries are used for rouge and coloring skin.

Fir

A sacred tree of life and death.  Merlin and Vivian's tree.  Symbol of sovereignty and the gift of knowledge.

Furze (gorse)

Good for protection because it's stalk has thorny spikes.  It's golden blossoms are symbols of the Sun.  Also is used for chastity and faithfulness.

Heather

For wealth, protection, knowledge, open-mindedness, luck, and flower crowns.

Aspen

Good for relieving pain, strong against weather or wind, helps you to pass on to Avalon.

Yew

Life-in-death and death-in-life aspects of the Goddess.  The eternal cycle of life.
