LAVATORY RATS
NEWS UPDATES

On hiatus until 2010
May 15, 2009

Because I am currently focusing on other aspects of my life, Lavatory Rats and my side projects (DJ Can't-Scratch and Richard Heck) are on hiatus until at least Summer 2010. Actually, I haven't really been doing much of anything since the release of the "Live at Bedroom Vol. I and II" double cassette on Epicene Sound Replica last July. But I just thought that I would make an official announcement.

Once I am able to devote some time to my musical endeavors in 2010, I am hoping to finally launch my CD-R label "Art, Not Product" and issue all of the Lavatory Rats, DJ Can't-Scratch, and Richard Heck music that is currently in the vaults. For a tentative list of future releases, check out the Art, Not Product page.

In the meantime, I still have a few copies of "Live at Bedroom Vol. I and II" available on the Mail Order page. This is a very limited edition release, and I only received a handful of artist copies and will not be getting any more. Once they are gone, they are gone.

Lavatory Rats "Live at Bedroom Vol. I & II" double cassette released on Epicene Sound Replica
January 9, 2009

Lavatory Rats "Live at Bedroom Vol. I & II" double cassette has been issued by Epicene Sound Replica. This is the second official Lavatory Rats release. Actually, "Live at Bedroom Vol. I & II" was issued in July 2008. However, because my musical endeavors are not my main priority in life, I am only now getting around to officially announcing the release.

Lavatory Rats "Live at Bedroom Vol. I & II" double cassette cover.

Contrary to what the title may suggest, these are not live performances at a venue called "Bedroom." They are live improvisations that I recorded in my bedroom. Vol. I was recorded July 19, 1998, and Vol. II was recorded November 28, 1998. Some of the material from Vol. II was previously released on the "Recycled Music" cassette; here the recordings can be heard in their entirety.

This release is actually about 9 years in the making. I have been acquainted with M. Reis, the founder of Epicene Sound Systems, since he started the label back in 1999. From the beginning, we had talked off and on about putting out some Lavatory Rats material on Epicene. (See the History section for more information.) Well, it finally happened. And not a moment too soon, I should add. A few weeks after I received my artist copies of "Live at Bedroom," Reis announced that Epicene was no more.

As far as I know, "Live at Bedroom Vol. I & II" is a limited edition of 50 double cassettes. As I have not heard from Reis since the demise of Epicene, I do not know what has become of the copies that he has. The last few remaining copies that I have are available from the Mail Order page.

The "Live at Bedroom" recordings have always been my favorite Lavatory Rats material, so I am glad they have finally been released. Many thanks to Epicene for making it happen.
