| ~ DAD'S RIDE ~ |
| YEAR: 1970 MAKE: Ford MODEL: Mustang Mach I PHOTO: 1985 He bought it used in 1975, and kept it until he passed away in 1990. Dad was proud of this car and cherished it in ways I wish all classic car owners would. It had a 351ci V-8 engine and 15" mag rims with 50-series wide tires. He occasionally street raced with this thing, having lost only once (to a Camaro, of all cars). He spent a lot of time driving it around; not just to & from work, but all over The State. The open road was as beautiful a thing to my father as being able to drive this car on it. He had a lot done to it which I never really appreciated--or can remember--due to being so young. Some of what I do recall involves how he installed electric windows, bought personalized license plates for it (see above photo) and had this black bumper sticker in the rear window with big, bold lettering that read: The More I Know About Women, The Better I Like Cars. My dad had been divorced twice. Many guys could relate. After Dad passed away, I had hoped my grandmother would give The Mustang to me; but she feared her grandson might get killed driving it. She eventually sold it to a neighbor...who promptly wrecked it. I don't blame my grandma; she couldn't know her neighbor was an idiot driver. And the damage wasn't so bad, far as I could tell. But it left a sad, lasting impression upon seeing it like that. Unfortunately, that was the last time I ever saw Dad's Mustang. ___________________ |
